Last night, Maxwell's hosted the Hoof & Mouth Sinfonia concert, the grand finale to the annual Fundraising Marathon for WFMU-FM, the freeform radio station with studios in Jersey City. The event was broadcast live on the radio and over the internet. For nearly five hours, station DJs sang karaoke-style, backed by a house band of WFMU DJs and volunteers, including several professional musicians such as Dennis Diken of The Smithereens.
Station Manager Ken Freedman, a Hoboken resident, filled air time between sets by calling for pledges and keeping a running tally. The Marathon, which is the only annual on-air fundraiser for WFMU, fell somewhat short of its $1.2 million goal. Donations can still be made at www.wfmu.org.
