18 People Arrested During Hoboken LepreCon

This year's St. Patrick's Day celebrations saw 18 arrests, compared to last year's 34.

Police arrested 18 people in Hoboken on Saturday, during the city's first LepreCon celebration in lieu of the St. Patrick's Day Parade.

Last year 34 people were arrested.

Below is the overview of arrests, provided by the police. All information is based on police reports.

The first arrest of the day happened at 2:45 p.m. in the A&P parking lot, when police arrested 24-year-old Daniel Barroqueiro from Newark for driving while intoxicated.

Around 3:40 p.m., at First and Hudson Streets, 25-year-old Matthew Rosen was arrested for allegedly attacking the fire chief's car with a green umbrella. Rosen, from Randolph, was charged with disorderly conduct.

Twenty minutes later, police arrested Jonathan Avecillas, 24 from Green Brook, for trying to push his way into a bar on First Street. Avecillas was charged with disorderly conduct.

Another disorderly conduct arrest occured twenty minutes later when Jonathan Seitz from Fair Lawn allegedly tried to punch a bouncer on First Street. Seitz, 25, was charged with disorderly conduct.

Many hours later, around 8:30 p.m. at First and River Streets, police arrested 26-year-old Daniel McCarthy from Smithtown, NY for disorderly conduct and allegedly resisting arrest. Police said McCarthy became verbally combative and wouldn't quiet down after being asked to do so.

Around 8:45 p.m., at First and River Streets, police arrested 25-year-old Aayon Maitra, from Cherry Hill, for driving under the influence. When asked to recite the alphabet, his speech "sluggish and slurred," he answered "A ... T ... A."

Around 9:30 p.m. in front of City Hall, police found Jiteshkum Patel, who appeared intoxicated, standing in the middle of the street, waving down cars. Patel, 30 from Union, allegedly continued to act disorderly and then proceeded to resist himself against a police officer. Patel was charged with assaulting a police officer and disorderly conduct.

Christoph Lyon, 24 from Boonton, was arrested around 9:30 p.m. for allegedly pushing a police officer at Washington and Fifth Streets. Before police arrested him, Lyon had allegedly been cursing at passersby.

Five minutes later, police broke up a fight outside 900 Bloomfield St., where a 26-year-old Garfield man was punched in the face and left bleeding by the alleged actor. Police arrested Joseph Pangione, 30 from New Milford; Diana Dopico, 23 from West New York and Francisco Penaranda, 24 also from West New York. The three were charged with aggravated assault and endangering an injured victim.

Around 10 p.m. police arrested Matthew Bailey, 24 from Oakland, at First and Bloomfield Streets for failure to disperse.

Jose Kevin Torres, 20 from Jersey City, was arrested around 10:25 p.m. for allegedly damaging a car on Court Street. He was charged with criminal misschief.

Around that same time at First and Garden Streets, police broke up a fight and arrested three people involved in a physical altercation. George Kocher, 23 from New York and twin brothers Frank and Michael Marra, 27 from Hoboken, were arrested and charged with simple assault. Police also found that Kocher was in posession of heroin.

Mayor's Office issued a statistical breakdown with one less arrest: 18 stating:
"Arrests were down 47%, ambulance calls were down 61%, and city ordinance violations were down 69%."

Full details and the complete breakdown:

If this tally is accurate, that's a 45% drop from last year. Some would call it progress.
Others, well they'll come up with something.

This was funny: " then proceeded to resist himself." Did he use one or two hands?

How many arrests are made on a typical day in Hoboken? a typical Saturday?

And, what was the cost to the city for the presence of law enforcement this weekend? Overtime? Outside people? Any idea?

My guess is less than what Beth Mason has spent on running for office and turning herself into the Wicked Witch of Hoboken. She should ask you for a refund.

Hello prosbus!
Speaking of arrests, do you remember when your favoritest mayor ever Peter Cammarano got arrested? What was the cost to the city of his misdeeds?

Remember when your second favoritest mayor ever, Anthony Russo, got arrested? What was the cost to the city of his misdeeds, including the restitution he still owes?

Remember when you and Perry's City Hall correspondent got arrested and the FBI is still here sniffing all over the place for accomplices and I believe you may have some firsthand knowledge of their presence? What has been the cost to the city of the security breaches?

Just some food for thought since you are such an outstanding Hoboken Questioner.

Thank you very much, prosbus! Thank you oh so very much!

Bob R, don't mention it-
As I was looking over the list of arrests for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest on this article, I couldn't help but wonder if Dawn and Kids First might be searching the names for potential running mates for the school board elections in November. It worked so well with Clifford Godfrey.

I was promised a helicopter. I was lied to...I would have gladly paid for a helicopter. I should have known better than to trust low carb news sites.

It's hard not to be entertained by Prosbus trying to change the subject to the cost. Tell us Prosbus - how much money will the city save by moving school board elections to November if each annual April School Board election costs $50,000?

Your friend Curioustwit and her friend Dr. P think the annual savings would be only $12,500 since they believe that we only have one november election every four years.

I think we'd save $50,000 per year and also think that curioustwit and Dr. P (passkey) are imbeciles.

Since your so concerned about costs what do you think the savings would be?

Also - how much does it cost to hire an attorney to negotiate a plea agreement with federal authorities? Does it matter if it's being paid for with other people's money? Did the source of that money effect what information you were permitted to include in your proffer?

Bring back the parade. The mayor dropped the ball on this one. The video of her talking about how much calmer the City was on the day was undermined when the drunk in the gorilla suit walked past her during the interview.

I'm sure the cost of Saturday's law enforcement efforts were not trivial-- what benefit to the public occurred? Not getting vomited on?
Its a shame Dawn couldn't plan a parade and give it the priority that she gave to making sure the town was safe to drink in this weekend. Priorities.

It is a shame Lane Bajardi could not give vetting his candidates for criminality the same priority he gave to making sure his easel was erect at the sight of Elizabeth Abruzzese Mason. Priorities.

I'm sure the costs of investigating the theft of the City's email is not trivial either. Prosbus - do you feel that the federal government should instead be using that money to plan a parade?

I'm sure you do!!!!! Priorities.

And you forgot to answer my question about how much money we will save on elections if 4 annual school board elections costing $50,000 each are moved to November. Is it the $12,500 that your imbecile friends curioustwit and Dr. P insisted it was because we only have November elections every 4 years?

Or do you agree that they are imbeciles?

A guy in a suit of any kind is not an objective data measurement. But there's one arrest of one Martha Stewart important to Lane Bajardi and Kim Cardinal:

Federal law establishes a possible penalty of 5 years in prison for making a false statement to the federal government or its agents:

(a) Except as otherwise provided in this section, whoever, in any matter within the jurisdiction of the executive, legislative, or judicial branch of the Government of the United States, knowingly and willfully-

(1) falsifies, conceals, or covers up by any trick, scheme, or device a material fact;
(2) makes any materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or representation; or
(3) makes or uses any false writing or document knowing the same to contain any materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or entry;
shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than 5 years.

Two from Hoboken were arrested "twin brothers Frank and Michael Marra, 27 from Hoboken"

Also only one DWI? Were they any DWI checkpoints at the entrances to town?

I returned to town at 8:00 PM on Saturday night and there were no DWI checkpoints at the Park Ave or Willow Avenue entrances to Hoboken and none when I left town in the early afternoon. Hoboken if it ever wants to get serious about deterring the drunks from coming from the burbs to cause mayhem here after drinking need to start DWI checkpoints every weekend at all entrances to town.

What can Hoboken411 do now to make this into a negative conspiracy? This is horrible news for Perry Klaussen and his ghostwriter Lane. Tomorrow the news gets worse? Hoboken411 has to go to criminal court for coercion?

Beth Mason's "news" website is in trouble.

I often read but seldom post because even those I agree with seem so nasty. My 12 year old son had a bake sale (he baked everything himself with his grandma) , at 1st and Clinton - surrounded by bars and more than a few house parties. It was to benefit The Make-A-Wish Foundation. While there was a steady stream of celebrants, we felt safe (we were there from 1-6pm). There was a strong police presence, and everyone was friendly. He raised more than $900 for charity in 5 hours. Several people contributed without even taking a cupcake. Imagine if next year kids and families were out all over Hoboken doing the same. Let's relieve the revelers of some of their money as well as their bladders. People bring money to drink, they can also spend it for a good cause. Working together we can change the world. Why spend so much energy fighting over minutae. I for one am glad the Mayor stood her ground. Whatever anyone may think, she was really only concerned with the saftey of our neighbors. My wife and son were almost hit by a beer bottle thrown from a roof last year. This year we felt safe.
