I returned to town at 8:00 PM on Saturday night and there were no DWI checkpoints at the Park Ave or Willow Avenue entrances to Hoboken and none when I left town in the early afternoon. Hoboken if it ever wants to get serious about deterring the drunks from coming from the burbs to cause mayhem here after drinking need to start DWI checkpoints every weekend at all entrances to town.

I often read but seldom post because even those I agree with seem so nasty. My 12 year old son had a bake sale (he baked everything himself with his grandma) , at 1st and Clinton - surrounded by bars and more than a few house parties. It was to benefit The Make-A-Wish Foundation. While there was a steady stream of celebrants, we felt safe (we were there from 1-6pm). There was a strong police presence, and everyone was friendly. He raised more than $900 for charity in 5 hours. Several people contributed without even taking a cupcake. Imagine if next year kids and families were out all over Hoboken doing the same. Let's relieve the revelers of some of their money as well as their bladders. People bring money to drink, they can also spend it for a good cause. Working together we can change the world. Why spend so much energy fighting over minutae. I for one am glad the Mayor stood her ground. Whatever anyone may think, she was really only concerned with the saftey of our neighbors. My wife and son were almost hit by a beer bottle thrown from a roof last year. This year we felt safe.
