Arts & Music Fest Preview: Jack Skuller

Patch introduces you to the performers of the Arts and Music Festival on May 2nd

At age 11, Jack Skuller had his heart broken.

And although he doesn't remember exactly what happened, he still recalls "that hurt feeling," he said. "I liked a girl, and she liked someone else."

He decided to write a song about it, titled "Love is a Drum."

Skuller is now 14 (move over, Justin Bieber!), and will be performing at the Hoboken Arts & Music Festival on May 2. Before then, he is set to release Love is a Drum on April 20, with Bar/None records. The song will be available a digital download on iTunes.

Skuller, who is in eighth grade at Weehawken High School, said he is honored to be playing at the Hoboken festival. He said he takes his inspiration from his favorite bands, the Beatles and the Ramones. Besides music, his other passion is baseball, he said.

Going up before a large crowd is always nerve wrecking before hand, he said. But once he's up there, he'll forget about the nerves and just entertain the audience.

"Any musician who says he's not nervous," Skuller said, "that's just not true."

If you want to catch this young musician before the festival; he'll be performing at Maxwell's on April 25 to celebrate the release of the single.
