Board of Ed Hires New Directors

During the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday night.

Among a list of other hires, the Board of Education replaced the district's directors for the theater as well as the gifted and talented program, during its monthly public meeting on Tuesday night.

Danielle Miller will start as theater arts teacher at the Hoboken high School for $46,410. Robert Felicetta will be the new gifted and talented teacher at Connors, Wallace and Calabro Schools for $53,917. The board also approved a $4,275 stipend for Felicetta's role as assistant football coach at the high school.

The board members entered into a roughly hour-long executive session to discuss the personnel matters around 10 p.m. on Tuesday. An hour later, they came back to vote on the contracts.

Board member Maureen Sullivan, approving the full list of new hires, said she voted "with a heavy heart" to replace the two popular former directors.

Board members Frances Rhodes-Kearns and Peter Biancamano—both at odds with the Kids First majority that is currently in control of the school board—voted against the hiring of Miller and Felicetta as directors, but approved the 29 other people on the list.

Board member Ruth McAllister was absent and Carmelo Garcia left before this vote was taken.

Also among the new people for the coming school year, are nine part-time security guards, who will work for $10 an hour, five hours a day. Four part-time custodians were hired for $7.50 an hour, for three and a half hours a day.

Gerard Friedman was hired as trainer for the Red Wings, at $53,401.
