Cakes Are Forever When Baked With Diamonds

Here's what you missed on Monday night's new episode.

“This has been one of the biggest years in Carlo's history,” Buddy says, as the latest new episode, and season five finale of Cake Boss begins.

“My dad took a risk, but it was his dream we could have a place where we could all work together,” he says.

Buddy says he's continuing that dream by growing the bakery, having recently launched the new factory at Lackawanna. The next plan is to renovate the old Carlo's “We need to give it a fresh, brand new look,” he says. Buddy wants to redo all three floors of Carlo's to make things easier for the customers and the employees.

Speaking of customers, Buddy has a special client. It's a young woman, attractive and very elegantly dressed, flanked by three stern men. “What the hell is going on here,” Buddy says when he sees them.

Buddy's client is named Devorah, and she's a New York socialite. Oh, a socialite. Like former Hoboken resident for five minutes Kim Kardashian. Let's see if Devorah commits to appearing in the whole episode until the end or leaves after 72 days to go canoodle with Reggie Bush.

Devorah is throwing a diamond gala, and for it she wants to have the most expensive cake ever made.

She wants real diamonds on the cake. She introduces Buddy to Jeffrey, who is a jeweler. “You gotta be careful with the diamonds,” Jeffrey says.

Devorah is wearing a necklace that's worth $7 million dollars. Just then Buddy's sisters come harping over to look at it. Devorah lets them touch the necklace, but Jeffrey suggests they all go to the back to look at the diamonds.

“I'm so excited about this gala because there's going to be a lot of gorgeous people there, notables, socials, movers and shakers,” Devorah says. Basically everyone in that decadent 1% that the hipsters occupying Wall Street want to drown in a vat full of flat Pabst Blue Ribbon.

Jeffrey estimates that the cake Buddy bakes, studded with diamonds, could be worth up to $30 million dollars. Or about what the Yanks will pay a washed-up A-Rod in 2017.

Buddy has the crew at the factory making the chocolate cake filled with whipped cream and truffles. Liz and Mauro are stacking the tiers. Mauro mentions the $7 million dollar necklace. Poor Liz says she wears the same fake earrings to work everyday.

Danny asks Frankie about the cake, who responds that it's for a socialite. Refreshingly, Danny has no idea what that is.

Buddy thinks about how Devorah parties for a living, and that he's got a lot to celebrate too. So he decides to throw his own party.

“I'm not gonna spend no $20 million dollars or nothin', but now's the perfect time to thank my whole family and all my employees for their hard work,” he says.

Buddy gathers Mauro, Frankie and Joey. He says he's going to cook a nice “bahbah-cue.” He sends the guys to go pick up some meat and fish.

But first, it's time to put on the jewels.

“Are you sure those will stay in there,” a guard asks about the diamonds Buddy has pressed into the cake. “We're gonna find out, Cheech,” Buddy responds, not even turning to look at the guy.

Buddy decides to put some frosting over the jewels. The guard gets worried and calls Jeffrey, ignorantly referring to Buddy merely as “the baker.” But Jeffrey says everything is okay.

“You a rat?” Buddy asks the guard. “Snitches get stitches,” Frankie says. The guard has a gun but he doesn't look like he survived growing up in a tough Italian family in New Jersey. And now he looks like a chump. “Just doing my job, sir,” he tells Buddy.

Buddy finishes the cake and drives it to New York. Buddy jokes that even though he's got a guard in the back, his van isn't an armored car, and he's seen a lot of Robert DeNiro movies.

The cake is in good shape after the delivery, but Devorah is nervous because if she botches the party she'll probably lose her job and have to get a real one.

But everything goes fine. “This is amazing, it's so beautiful, you did an incredible job,” she says. “Great job,” Jeffrey says. After Jeffrey removes the jewels, the socialites pig out.

His work done, Buddy returns to the factory parking lot, where he's got a grill ready for the bahbah-cue. He gathers all his employees.

“This a token of my appreciation for all your hard work,” he tells them.

Everyone cheers and begins eating. There were no fancy jewels at this party, but with Buddy's family and friends together it was worth a lot more.
