Charges: Assault on Police; Simple Assault on Resident

Hoboken Police Blotter, Week of Dec. 1 - 7, 2010

The Hoboken Police Department reports for Dec. 1 -7, 2010, include aggravated assault on police officers, simple assault on a woman walking her dog, robbery and a slew of stolen bikes and GPS systems.

Ani Reyes, 21, of Jersey City, assaulted two police officers at 1:58 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 5. Police were called to 79 Hudson Street, where three females were said to have been involved in a dispute, the report says. The police stopped the women at 38 Hudson Place, where the three said they were involved in a dispute with two men. The two men were found at 74 Hudson Street with "scratches, bleeding, and visible signs" of assault, according to the report.

The men said they were involved in a physical dispute with the women but did not file a complaint. As the police officers attempted to collect information from the three women, Reyes "suddenly became irate and combative," the report says. She was barefoot at the time and the police say she appeared to be intoxicated.

Reyes proceeded to punch an officer in the face and wrestle him to the ground, causing injury to his left knee and face, he said. Reyes next grabbed another officer and choked his neck by pulling on the cord holding his badge. She was then arrested and transported to headquarters, where she was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, according to the police report. Reyes told police she is four months pregnant.

Also Sunday, a woman was assaulted while walking her dog on the 1300 block of Hudson Street, police say. The victim was crossing Hudson St. when a four-door Altima with NJ license plates flew around the corner, stopping just short of hitting them. The driver screamed to get out of the road, leading to a verbal argument. The female driver, described as possibly Hispanic, 5'0", 120 pounds with dark hair, then exited the car and struck the victim in the face, according to police. The victim, who sustained a swollen lip and pain in her hand, tried to defend herself by pushing back. At that time, the victim's husband separated the pair. The driver fled the scene and has not been identified, police say. The car is registered to a man in Jersey City.

At 9 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4, a woman was robbed in the courtyard between 310 and 320 Jackson Streets. Jon-Rodney Lynch, 44, of Harrison Street, was arrested and charged with robbery, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon, according to police. The report says Lynch approached two women who were walking home from a liquor store on Third and Jackson Streets. He asked one of the women for $1, to which she replied she had no money. He replied that he has seen her buy a pack of cigarettes. As she and her friend walked away, Lynch pushed her to the ground with both hands, stealing $25 from her pants pocket. The victim and her friend then started walking towards Lynch. That's when, police say, he turned around, pulled out a black handgun and yelled expletives at the women. No one was injured, and Lynch fled into 318 Harrison St. After searching the building to no avail, police found and arrested Lynch when he left the building later Saturday night, unarmed. Upon searching his apartment, the gun was not found, according to the report.

Also Saturday, at 5:42 a.m., a box truck caught fire in the Dunkin Donuts parking lot at 400 Newark Street. There were no injuries, and a witness in the area told police that there was no one near the truck, according to police reports. The fire department is investigating.

In other news, two men were stopped short of shoplifting from Burlington Coat Factory on Dec. 7, according to police reports. They fled the scene empty-handed when they realized they were suspected, according to the police report.

Nearly a dozen GPS systems were stolen from vehicles, as well as several bicycles left near the PATH station.
