City To Choose New Insurance Plan for Its Employees

The mayor has called a special meeting on Wednesday night to choose a new broker.

Mayor Dawn Zimmer is calling a special meeting on Wednesday night, for the council to vote on a new insurance plan for the city.

The mayor is proposing a change in insurance broker for its employees. The plan Zimmer is proposing costs $312,000 a year with Fairview Insurance and includes "wellness coaching" for the employees, according to a press release from the city. Last year Hoboken paid $360,000 in insurance fees. (The mayor's letter is attached to this story).

A special meeting is needed to vote on this, according to spokesman Juan Melli, because the city needs a new contract with an insurance broker by the end of the month.

The council will meet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night.

Question 1: Is it an optional Wellness Program or is it a mandatory Wellness Program?
Question 2: Is there any penalty (financial, reduced coverage, etc...) if the employee does not participate in the Wellness Program?
Question 3: Was there an RFP? Were there other competitive bids?

Observation 1: They are based in Cherry Hill, NJ (a.k.a. Central NJ)....

Observation: Lane Bajardi has NEVER appeared in an ELEC report for Beth Mason or Tim Occhipinti. He appears in this midnight video for Occhipinti's campaign leaders. http://www.hobokenhorse.com/2010/10/grist-for-mill-midnight-monday-meeting.html
Is he credited in Beth Mason's IRS filings? Does he credit her in his tax forms?

Instead of spewing venom, why don't you do something constructive with your ample time left over after reading the time and traffic reports to taxi jockeys, and just compose an email for you Mistress to send to Arch Liston and ask him your questions? Arch offered to answer all of her emails and to give her access to all of his emails. After all, she seems to have a great deal of interest in other people's emails. Better yet, you can send the email yourself and then have Bet submit an OPRA request to make sure that it wasn't tampered with or altered. Yeah, that's the ticket, my silly little undereducated, purple pillow plumping moronic minion that is not paid for his friendship.

How about you stop being so lazy and you just check the city website. The city did put the response to the RFQ up for everyone to look at. Go read the 192 page document yourself.

Question 1: Did Prosbus do any research or just try to raise doubts around the administration:

http://www.nj.com/hobokennow/index.ssf/2012/01/hoboken_city_council_to_choose.html

Under a basic plan, Fairview Insurance will charge the city $240,000 per year - $120,000 less than last year's $360,000, Zimmer said. For $312,000 per year, the broker will also provide city employees with wellness coaching.

So, it was at least competitive based on last years (although Red did more research than I did there), and could have been quite a bit cheaper if we ditched the coaching. Maybe Mrs. Mason should suggest we go with the $240, but certainly even she understands that $240 is less than $360.

My question: Did the "council minority" have a chance to privately negotiate their kickback here?

MSV can confirm this firm did not wet Councilman Michael Russo's beak. Can you guess though which firm in the past did?

There's your free tip of the day. Chew on that.

Based on just on their long history of felony convictions and released FBI tapes that "Hoboken's First Family of Corruption" must always be suspect of wrong doing in anything they are involved.

Mandatory wellness program?? That's a GREAT idea! It won't happen though, the fatties and smokers and other people who are chronically unhealthy, driving health care costs up, would have a cow

Wow so that's what Prosbus is on about. They gave money to Russo, so now he's raising questions. Now I think we all understand how his Dad ended up on the city's insurance for so long. Thanks Horsey, you always find the good stuff on these characters.

So, the "special" meeting was cancelled. Maybe Ms. Mayor is figuring out how to recast this as an "emergency"????
It's too bad her powers of governance and incorporating minority members into the decision making process still do not occur to her.

Has it occurred to Lane Bajardi that he may be looking at hefty prison time? He has NEVER appeared in an ELEC report for Beth Mason or Tim Occhipinti. He appears in this midnight video for Occhipinti's campaign leaders. http://www.hobokenhorse.com/2010/10/grist-for-mill-midnight-monday-meeting.html
