Council Approves $3M Capital Improvement Bond

After pleas from the Police Chief and the Environmental Services Director.

The city council approved a roughly $3 million bond on Wednesday night, which will be used for capital improvements for several city departments.

In front of City Hall, before the meeting, environmental services workers had lined up their antiquated trucks to make a statement, showing the city council they need new equipment.

Police Chief Anthony Falco also appeared in front of the council, for the second time this year on this topic.

"I'm here again asking that this bond ordinance will go through," Falco said, "it'll certainly help me with renovations in the police department."

The bond passed in a 6-1 vote, with Michael Russo voting against. Councilwoman Beth Mason and Councilman Tim Occhipinti weren't present for the vote.

Among the things the police department needs is a new phone system. The current system is old and doesn't work well, Falco said.

"I can’t imagine how we can not do these upgrades at this time," said Councilman David Mello.

Finance Director Nick Tresante told the council that the city will not go out to bond for the full amount immediately, but that the money will be borrowed on an as needed basis.

Well now that they no longer have the hospital sale to sabotage, I guess the minority figured they could pass some bonding. About frigging time.

Three of the four of the Council of NO didn;t vote for the much needed bond issue.

Russo voted no, Occhipinti was strangely MIA from the Council table when the vote was taken and Mason was absent.

It only takes 1. I don't expect more then 1 b/c the other 3 need to take potshots at Zimmer and will naturally use the opportunity to make a horse's behind out of themselves like usual.

Terry the dye-job is literally in bed with the PD, so she let one slip by. The other obstructionists probably knew this so they didn't showfor the vote The minority serial obstructionist will be back at it next chance.

Dealing with Russos is like dealing with children. Theresa is Mike's cousin & god mother, does anyone not think they didn't agree on how to vote ahead of the meeting?

.

Splitting their votes is a transparent attempt for Mike to save face and not have to admit he played politics with the Police and Fire departments.

.

Quick piece of advice to Police and Fire, it seems if you want Mike Russo's attention you need to cut a check to Mike's political campaign. Worked for the FBI.

Its about time. Both the Police and Fire must have proper equipment in order to do their jobs. I am glad the Police and Fire made a stand against the miscreant minority and finally Terry Castellano came to her senses. Such a game player that woman is.

Dock Beth Mason a days pay for nappin' on the job. She should show up if she is going to collect a paycheck.

Wow. I just realized that $3 million is 12 million quarters. 12 million quarters weighs 150,000 pounds or 75 tons. Gee Willickers that is is sure a lot of coin!
