Councilman Tim Occhipinti has said he wants to have the graffiti at the Newark Street entrance to Hoboken cleaned. On Wednesday night, the councilman will bring up the topic during the city council meeting.
Earlier this month, Occhipinti sent an email to the city directors as well as his council colleagues, saying that "graffiti not only lowers property values but this is what visitors and residents see first upon entering our city."
Occhipinti is asking the city's directors to create a "corrective action plan."
More on this after Wednesday night's meeting. What do you think—does the graffiti bother you?

Read the actual letter and you'll understand why TIm is a bad councilman. Tim demands, literally orders, an action plan without a) having figured out who to contact b) suggesting some action of his own. His action is more in the 'they should do something category.
Clearly the city or someone (since Tim doesn't actually know who is responsible) paints over the graffiti periodically. Tim could at least propose something useful, ie. put a mural on the site (again assuming it is the city's responsibility, not say NJTransits...

Tim is an idiot. I am sure if he had just picked up a phone, called city hall and asked who is responsible for cleaning up the graffiti at such and such a location, he'd have gotten an answer. Instead he sends out a press release. Real moron.

It is a nice and novel thought to want to maintain our community, if only someone would take the time and effort step up with some innovative ideas, such as this groundbreaking hypothesis of removing local graffitti, authored by the 4th Ward councilman. I assume some kind of think-tank has been assembled without the public's knowledge to develop such a unique and innovative agenda.
However, I am beginning to suspect this is just some kind of sophmoric ploy by Mr Occhipinti to attract positive buzz to himself in the media by sending out a press release, in an attempt to simulate a person doing their job. davidd is right, a modicum of research (or a moment's thought) might be a good preamble to such an action. To avoid such oversights, perhaps at the next council meeting Mr Occhipinti could go over the basics for catchy, attention grabbing, specious and frequent press releases from his mentor, Ms Mason.
-
Happily now the hard part, the idea generation aspect is completed, and as such, the heavy lifting is out of the way. The problem has been identified, and a complaint aired. All that remains to do now is to delegate quantifying, delineating, budgeting, staffing and execution of a course of action by the worker bees. Oh, and one more thing, after that, at a subsequent council meeting, the minority council needs to criticize the size of the environmental services budget in pear shaped tones. Maybe Mr Occhipinti could do a press release about that too.

MSV breaks down the hilarity of Tim Occhipinti as it turns out his complaint is in Jersey City, where his friend and co-worker Steve Fulop is a councilman and the property in question is owned by his developer friend NJ Transit.

Went by and took a look at the area. Wait a sec-my visit was a:
"Site Survey to Ascertain Critical Graffiti Issues and Conceptualize Remediational Action to Subject Defaced Property to Increase Local Quality of Life and Property Values":
Initial diagnosis: that sure does look like NJ Transit's problem.
"Action Plan": That "action plan" that Mr Occipiniti wants us to pay city directors to tackle, well, I'll do it right now, without further ado, and for free. Here goes: Have someone call NJ Transit and have them have someone come down with a bucket of paint, a roller and a couple of dropcloths to paint over the graffiti on NJT's train trestle, which is privately held or state owned. My guess is that isn't Hoboken's jurisdiction (unless the town wishes to fine NJ Transit for not up-keeping their property). Certainly not Hoboken's job to repair defaced private property.
Germaine recommendations: Removing that graffiti is certainly not something to spend any of our council's time on, or a penny of our tax payer's money.
-
Epilogue: When the guy arrives with the bucket of paint, due to my innovative solutions and pro-active approach I am hoping to be on hand for a photo-op with Mr Occhipinti and some mucky-mucks from NJT. If simply noticing this graffiti is worthy this article in Patch, perhaps in exchange for my conceptualizing and engineering a solution to this crisis (if there is any justice in the world) I will be awarded a ticker-tape parade and a key to the city.

Kudos to Councilman Tim Occhipinti for attempting to address the graffiti issue at the southern entrance/exit to Hoboken. While it may take some cooperation with the rest of the council, Jersey City and NJ Transit-- it is a step in the right direction and I imagine a bi-partisan concern.
Perhaps Mayor Zimmer can lend some leadership on this issue by figuring out who to sue, then having a press release, and finally having Coiuncilman Ravi Bhalla work behind the scenes to hire a central Jersey law firm...isn't that the way things get done under this administration?

Jeez lady, if Timmay had just looked at a map or used a phone, he'd have realized this mess was in a different town. But of course, like you, he is way too obtuse to figure that one out. Way to go Curiouslyobtusegal, way to come to the defense of the obtuse!

Hello,
This is something I have never done on a public forum.
I'm Carol Harrison and I'm going to give my opinion on political nature.
In my personal opinion Mr. Occhipinti either didn't know the boundries of his ward and city, or doesn't care. Grandstanding and trying to twist the knife in the back of current administration is much more important.
It is my opinion that most rational people can see that clear as day.

Timmay should ask his campaign contributors over at NJ Transit to paint the rest of their graffiti. BTW, good job on the city of Hoboken in using their phones to get the responsible party to get this graffiti cleaned up. Too bad Timmay doesn't know how to work a phone. If he knew how to use a phone, he might have been able to tell NJT to do that himself or he could have called Jersey City, the town where the graffiti was actually located and gotten them to get the word out to NJ Transit to do a little painting.
What other problems that are not Hoboken's responsibility will Timmay issue a press release to complain that the city needs to do something about? Will Timmay now be sending out press releases asking the city of Hoboken to have someone nag Weehawken about potholes up in Weehawken? Will he start complaining about the loss of Arctic ice and how that is hurting polar bears? Will he start complaining about solar flares & the problems they caused w/ his cell reception? Seriously, this guy is an idiot. The man doesn't even know where the borders are in the city he is an elected representative of. His emails should be labeled as spam and deleted upon receipt. I curse the day Beth Mason decided to fund his check writing binge and inflict this moron upon us.
