Criminal Personnel Investigation Underway in City Hall

Some say the Federal Bureau of Investigation is involved.

A criminal investigation regarding City Hall personnel is underway, according to Assistant Corporation Counsel Melissa Longo. Outside agencies are conducting the investigation, she said, but she declined to comment on which agencies were involved.

Several sources, who wished to remain anonymous, said three officers from the Federal Bureau of Investigation paid a visit to City Hall this week. The FBI's public affairs office did not confirm its visit to Hoboken.

The IT office on the third floor of the building was pad locked earlier this week.

Longo did not say which City Hall employee is being investigated.

On Wednesday night, the city council entered an hour-long "emergency closed session" to discuss the matter.

Longo declined any further comment and did not say how long the investigation has been going on. It's still unclear if the outside agencies came to Hoboken on their own, or if the city asked them to come in.
