Diddy Performs At Chandelier Room

The swanky club celebrated its second birthday, with performances by Swizz Beats and Diddy.

W Hoboken's Chandelier Room celebrated its two-year anniversary on Wednesday night, and spared no expense throwing the biggest party in town.

The invite-only affair boasted performances by Swizz Beats and Diddy, as well as a guestlist that featured Amar’e Stoudemire, Adrienne Bailon, Audrina Patridge, Omarion, Carolyn Manzo with sons Albie and Chris and Gossip Girl’s Tika Sumter.

The celebration kicked off at 8 p.m. with guests entering through the Chandelier Room, before making their way to the W’s great room, decked out with laser lights and a full bar. DJ Cassidy warmed up the crowd with a mix of 80s and modern pop hits.

“It was an amazing venture, a great location, a great team, it’s not very difficult to be successful with all of those things working for you,” said Eugene Remm, one of the owners of EMM Group, who manage the Chandelier Room, as well as Tenjune and The Estate in New York.

“We’re excited for what the year holds,” added Remm. “We just want to give back to the town, as a thank you for the support.”

Inside, the crowd was mostly young professional-types, still in suits from work, or dressed to the nines in mini-dresses and stilettos.

“We’re regulars at the W,” said partygoer Casey Grillo, of Jersey City. “It’s always a good time.”

Ken Hagan, owner of Beach Bum Tanning on Sinatra Drive, showed up to mark the occasion and to support another local establishment.

“I come (to the W) often. They keep me liquored up, I keep them tan,” he laughed.

The room was split in half by a large VIP section, with white couches and free-flowing Ciroc (Diddy’s own brand of vodka), not to mention beefy security guards. Still, those that weren’t lucky enough to be granted the coveted silver wristband were still enjoying themselves.

“This is unbelievable,” said Jennifer Baskewitz, of North Jersey. “Such a good turnout, and so many beautiful women!”

“I’m excited to see Diddy, he’s a great performer,” said Monique Pridgeon, of Weehawken, who has been to the hotel for events in the past.

By 9 p.m. the hall was packed, and the DJ was spinning everything from Kanye West to old Madonna hits. The guests seemed appropriately liquored up (we overheard one young lady shrieking, “I don’t know how to take this off! I’ll just have to pee out the side!,” whilst in the bathroom), and the dance moves started to come out. By the time the DJ played Cali Swag District’s “Teach Me How to Dougie,” and everyone was actually doing the Dougie, the party was on.

At 10 p.m., Swizz Beats took the stage in a white leather jacket and shades (actually, this reporter doesn’t believe she’s ever seen a rapper perform without sunglasses on inside, at night), playing a mash-up of the mega-hits he’s produced during his decade-plus career, like Drake’s “Fancy” and DMX’s “Party Up.” Swizz debuted a new song, “Dance Like a White Girl,” which he stressed was not a stab at any of the ladies in attendance. Sure.

After Swizz Beats’ half hour set, it was time for the performer who, according to DJ Cassidy “needs no introduction:” Sean “Diddy” Combs, or maybe Puff Daddy, if you haven’t listened to music since 1997.

In between playing some of the classics, like “Mo' Money Mo' Problems” and “I'll Be Missing You,” he spouted some classic Diddy-isms, like “You stay good in school and brush your teeth,” directed at somebody’s child in the audience. He even called himself Uncle Diddy and offered to babysit.

Unfortunately, Diddy wasn’t properly prepped on what the night’s celebration was for, repeatedly congratulating the W on their “grand opening” in Hoboken.

“I didn’t even know they had hotels in this motherf***er,” he said at one point.

But the crowd didn’t care too much, as he launched into newer tracks like “Coming Home” and “Hello Good Morning” with the whole floor on their feet.

“This place has been open for two years?” Diddy asked when someone finally whispered in his ear. “Where have I been?”

“I made it feel like a grand opening, though," he added, "so give it up for me!"

“The show was awesome,” said Josephine Colon, a former Hobokenite and current North Bergen resident, as the crowd thinned out after Diddy left the stage. “It’s always cool when stuff like this comes to town.”
