Does Noise Bother You in Hoboken?

Noise, parking, or something else?

Not a weekend goes by without a fight or multiple arrests in downtown Hoboken.

The city has been implementing a new noise ordinance, which tries to keep the quiet, but has it been working?

We at Patch want to hear your thoughts. Are you bothered by the many bars and the noise on weekend nights, or are you not bothered by it? Take our poll below.

Of course, if there are any other noise complaints you have, feel free to let us know what you think in the comment section.

you should add another vote option - No, I am aware of the fact that I live in a city and if I wanted quiet I would move to Montana.

I opened this article wondering how long it would take for someone to say "If you want it to be quiet, MOVE". Done in one!

I don't have as many problems with noise where I live now, but in previous locations, yes, it was a problem sometimes. Foam earplugs are your friend, I recommend them to everyone. However, I do think it's a good idea to try and discourage it as much as possible.

Its horrible and just cause we live in the mile square, we shouldn't have to hang theater drapes to keep out the noise away from our ears! just sayin.....barbary coast Hoboken was never like this.

I would say, "yes" - not "no" - "it's only a problem on weekends." And no, bars are not responsible for fixing this problem. I'm not really sure who is, to be honest, besides the people themselves who seem to be incapable of controlling themselves. I know I live in a city and frankly, I enjoy falling asleep to the general noise on weeknights. But waking up to some person screaming and cursing at 4 a.m. almost every weekend is getting a little old.

Bigger issue on weekends than the noise: all the people who swarm in the middle of the street when cars have the right of way. THAT is something the police can actually do something about.

I don't hear the garabge trucks anymore. I don't notice sirens.
I'm used to it.
It's the SCREAMING drunks on the weekend that are annoying, and scary to wake up to.

More $1,000 fines would fix that.

You know what bugs me. The 3 bums that sit outside my apartment on the corner of 5th and Washington. At least 2 times a week the ambulance shows up and takes one of their drunk bum asses to the hospital. I've spoke to Jen Giattino a few times a few months back, but nothing has been done.

I love waking up in the morning, looking out my window and seeing these bums pissing on the side of 7-11.

No major city in America has gotten rid of bums since the mental institutions starting letting the mentally ill loose if they didn't pose a danger to the public. Get used to it and be glad you don't live in sunny CA or you'd probably have 30 bums hanging out on that corner.
