Former Stevens Prez Highest Paid in State

The Chronicle of Higher Education released a list of salaries of presidents of private universities.

Former Stevens Institute of Technology President Harold Raveche was the highest paid private university president in the state in 2009, according to a recently released list by the Chronicle of Higher Education.

Raveche, who served as the school's president for 12 years and left in 2010, earned $1,207,249 in 2009. In 2009 Raveche was also sued for financial misconduct, and for allegedly being responsible for a major reduction of the school's endowment.

Raveche was succeeded by current president Nariman Farvardin, who took office earlier this year.

Second on the list of highest paid university presidents in New Jersey is Princeton University's Shirley Tilghman, who earned $910,626 in 2009.

President of nearby St. Peter's College in Jersey City Eugene Cornacchia earned $270,642 in 2009, number eight in the state.
