Hoboken Celebrates Hannukah

The eight days of the festival of lights are filled with activities in the Mile Square.

While there are countless Hanukkah celebrations going on across the river in the city, there's no need to leave the Mile Square. Plenty of opportunities to celebrate the holiday and light candles.

  • On Thursday Dec. 22, a Hanukkah celebration will be held in City Hall. Doors open at 4:50 p.m., starting off with arts and crafts. From 5:30 to 6:20 there will be a muppet show. The event is put on by Chabad Lubavitch of Hoboken.
  • On Thursday Dec. 22, Rabbi Moshe Schapiro, of Chabad Lubavitch Hoboken, is hosting a candle lighting ceremony at City Hall at 6:30 p.m.
  • Like previous years, Tuesday night Dec. 20. The band will play all eight nights, every night with another musical guest as well as a comedic appearance. Tickets for the shows at have been sold out.
  • The United Synagogue of Hoboken is inviting everyone to a special Friday night service at the synagogue on Friday Dec. 23. The Hanukkah service will be followed by a latke dinner around 8 p.m.
  • The Young Jewish Adults of Hoboken already celebrated an early—and boozy—Hanukkah on Dec. 17, when the organization hosted the annual Hanukkah Bar Crawl.

On behalf of Hoboken Patch we wish everyone a Happy Hanukkah!
