The Hoboken Democratic Committee on Thursday night voted to extend the terms of all 72 committee members by one full year, according to the party's chairman Jamie Cryan.
"This was congeniality," Cryan said. "The committee voted unanimously to keep the status quo."
Until now, Hoboken's committee people served one-year terms.
The goal of keeping things as they are, Cryan said, is to be a united front to get U.S. Senator Robert Menendez, Congressman Albio Sires and President Barack Obama re-elected in November.
Both political sides in Hoboken agree with the move, Cryan said. Roughly 40 people showed up on Thursday night to vote on the matter.
When compared to a recent , which was met by a lot of criticism, Cryan said this situtation is different.
"This was a unanimous vote," he said. "This wasn't a contentious thing."
Committee people—a man and a woman in every district of every ward in town—in Jersey City and Bayonne have two year terms.
One person in attendance said the meeting, which was held at was "very civil."
With the , and no council members up for re-election, this will be the first spring in Hoboken without any elections.
"There'll be peace in Hoboken," Cryan said.
