Hoboken Gets New Environmental Services Director

Public Works Director from Plainfield, NJ, gets the job

Jennifer Wenson Maier will be Hoboken's new Environmental Services Director, Mayor Dawn Zimmer announced Tuesday afternoon in a press release. She will replace current director John Pope.

Maier is the director of public works and urban development in Plainfield, where she has brought in more than $11 million in grants in three years, according to the release. Maier is also a certified planner and architect.

"Given the city's urgent task of building a new municipal garage, Ms. Maier brings an array of expertise that Hoboken needs for this position," Zimmer said.

Maier will start her new job in two weeks.

Pope agreed to work with Maier until March 1, in order to provide a transition period for the department, Zimmer said.

"It has been my great privilege to serve the City of Hoboken and its residents," Pope said. "I have had the opportunity to work with a great group of people in both Human Services and Environmental Services. Their dedication has made my job easier."
