Hoboken Man Arrested for 'Tumultuous Behavior'

Hoboken police arrested a 22-year-old for raucous behavior, according to reports.

Hoboken police arrested a 22-year-old Hobokenite on early Sunday morning, after displaying "violent and tumultuous behavior," police said.

While patroling the streets around 4 a.m., officers came across Edward Canary in front of 700 Jefferson St.

Canary allegedly started yelling and screaming, police said.

As the officer walked out of the car, Canary yelled "what the f*** do you want?" The officers told Canary to calm down, because it was the middle of the night, but Canary wouldn't listen, police said, and allegedly kept on screaming obscenities at the officers.

“Canary stood 6’03 looming over me," one of the officers wrote in the police report, "as he pointed and yelled at me."

At that point, police said, the officers felt threatened by Canary and placed him under arrest for disorderly conduct.

This report is troubling. I'm all for police stopping people from causing a disturbance in the middle of the night. But I think I witnessed this one from my window. What woke me was a man shouting "he grabbed me by the neck" yelling and pointing at an officer. No idea what happened before I woke up. Just saw a man against the church wall and officers trying to calm him down while he accused the other officer. At one point they let him walk away with his friends but he continued shouting. That's when the accused officer walked after him and it went downhill. The poor guy couldn't keep his mouth shut and just go home. So yes, there was pointing and yelling. But the guy was actually sitting down on the church steps, talking so quietly to the officers that I couldn't hear him, and definitely not looming over anyone, when they put the handcuffs on him.
