Hoboken PATH To Open Wednesday [UPDATED]

Trains will be tested soon at the Hoboken location, according to the Port Authority.

The Hoboken PATH station is scheduled to reopen on Wednesday for service to midtown Manhattan, according to an announcement from the City of Hoboken.

Service will start at 5 a.m. and will operate seven days a week between 5 a.m. till 10 p.m.

The restoration of 24/7 PATH service is expected by the end of the year in time for New Year’s Eve.

Direct PATH service between Hoboken and the World Trade Center remains several weeks away pending ongoing repairs.

“The reopening of the Hoboken PATH station is a tremendous relief for our commuters and local businesses,” said Mayor Dawn Zimmer in a press release.

The announcement follows a promising tweet from the Port Authority on Monday:

"Around-the-clock weekend work moved #PATH closer to HOB service restoration. Testing trains soon and expect news this week regarding HOB."

PATH service to Manhattan was suspended for two consecutive weekends to speed up the construction on the Hoboken station, which is still closed since Sandy.

All the other PATH stations have been up and running for some weeks, and many Hobokenites have chosen to commute from Newport and walk or bike by the waterfront to Hoboken. Free shuttles are also provided.

The damage to the entire PATH system was estimated at $300 million, according to Port Authority officials. Last month, Vice President Joe Biden visited the Hoboken Terminal to survey the damage.

While construction has been taking longer than many expected, Mayor Dawn Zimmer has said that the renovations will result in a "more resilient" PATH station in Hoboken.

No further updates were provided by the Port Authority since Monday's tweet.

Sometimes no need to comment if it's not adding anything positive my friend. I know it's an open forum, but a positive outlook is always appreciated. I for one am psyched at this news and don't care if it came out tomorrow. Either way, WSJ, NJ.com, CBS, and NY Times all reporting within past 2 hours....not sure how they missed the boat on this yesterday. End result...news is out, trains will run, good news for all. Cheers

The original story had nothing to do w/ the PATH restarting Weds and just repeated the already known news that an update was forthcoming. It is not my fault the entire original story was deleted and replaced by something actually worth reporting on.

Over moderation and days of delays in clearing even the most benign post has ended Hoboken PATCH as an open forum.

Hopefully NJ transit will at least keep the extra 126 buses running at an appropriate level to service the many displaced PATH riders who now have a monthly bus pass until the end of Dec.
