Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corps Received 72 Calls On St. Pat's

The corps received 25 less calls for service than last year

The Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corps received 72 medical emergency calls between 10 a.m. Saturday morning and 1 a.m. Sunday morning, said Tom Molta, president of the corps.

This is a decline from last year, when they received 97 calls, he said. The nature of the emergencies was also different, he added.

"I thought it went very well," Molta said. "Last year two members (of the HVAC) were assaulted, we had none of that this year."

The majority of this year's calls came in for heavily intoxicated people, Molta said. Last year, he added, many more people were treated for assaults and fights.

Of the 72 people who were treated, only three were sober enough to refuse further medical care, Molta said.

The first call came in around 10 a.m. on Saturday morning, Molta said, when an intoxicated woman fell down the stairs at a house party.

The majority of the calls came in between 4 and 8 p.m. on Saturday.

The HVAC had three ambulances driving around in Hoboken Saturday during the day, and AmCare—a private ambulance company from Jersey City—had two ambulances in town. Molta said that throughout the day, there were roughly 50 members of the Emergency Medical Services personnel working.
