Police: Hoboken Woman Sexually Assaulted by Union City Man
The incident took place on LepreCon, but police say it does not appear to be related to the event.
A 35-year-old Union City man was arrested on Saturday morning after allegedly sexually harassing a 24-year-old Hoboken woman, police said.
Kevin Harrison allegedly pulled down the woman's sweatpants and touched her inappropriately, police said. He then allegedly tried to take her purse, but didn't succeed.
While it was the first arrest on LepreCon, police believe the incident is unrelated to the annual St. Patrick's Day celebration, because it was early in the morning before most of the festivities started.
The incident occured around 8:10 a.m. at Ninth and Jefferson Streets, police said, as the woman walked to ShopRite.
The victim told police she had the feeling someone was following her. When she crossed tenth street, that same man walked up to her and grabbed her lower legs from behind, police said.
The woman turned around and faced Harrison, police said. Harrison allegedly proceeded to pull down the woman's pants and assualt her. She fought back and after a failed attempt to steal her purse, Harrison ran off on Jefferson Street, according to reports.
The victim's roommate called 9-1-1.
Police caught Harrison at Sixth and Jefferson Streets and the victim positively identified him, according to the report.
Harrison was charged with robbery and criminal sexual contact, police said.
