Katie Couric Show Renovates Boys and Girls Club

In a big unveiling, the new youth center at the Boys and Girls Club was opened last week.

The Hoboken Boys and Girls Club youth center is officially back.

A month ago, the floors were oily, furniture and materials were ruined and staffers were close to tears.

Now, the walls are painted, the floor is new and the equipment is state of the art.

The new center was unveiled last week, in a special segment of the Katie Couric Show with help from millionaire contractor Stephen Fanuka.

The new youth center was built in four days with the help from volunteers and sponsored by Lowe's.

"This room," Fanuka said during last week's taping at the Boys & Girls Club, "is officially yours again."

The Boys and Girls Club kids piled into the new room last week, after being instructed to cheer as loudly as they can and to go enjoy the new toys.

"It's refreshing to see that so many people care about us," said Boys & Girls Club employee Yvette Miles. While heartbroken by the damage that Sandy did, Miles said that the Boys and Girls Club has gotten a lot of much deserved attention in wake of the storm.

"We're still and we're important," said Miles. "We're coming back even better."

Amir Goodwin, 13, and Tyshon Hanberry, 15, were among the students walking into the brand new youth center.

"It's better than it was last time," Hanberry said, "there are more games to play."

The youth center now has iPads, computers and charging stations.

Usually, Fanuka said, he deals with million dollar projects.

"This is a different," said Fanuka. "This is giving back."

The segment about Hoboken will air on the Katie Couric Show on Wednesday Dec. 19. at 3 p.m. on ABC.

Hmmmmmm...... "Good news" held in moderation since Tuesday 12/18 5:58 pm

Moderation has ended PATCH as an open forum.

That is just what one political group wanted because if they can't control the information the wanted it closed down.

They need to hire more staff to moderate if they want to moderate each and every post.
