Man Intrudes Apartment, Urinates on Couch

The incident happened over the weekend at 1 Independence Court in Hoboken.

One Hoboken man woke up to an uninvited guest on Sunday morning at his apartment at 1 Independence Court.

Around 8:30 a.m. the 35-year-old resident of the apartment found an unknown man sleeping on his couch, police said. When he woke the unknown man up, the uninvited guest said that he thought he was in his friend's apartment. As the two continued talking, the man realized he was in the wrong apartment, according to police reports.

The man was able to get into the apartment, because the door was unlocked, police said.

While nothing appeared to be vandalized or stolen at first glance, the Hobokenite later found that the overnight guest had urinated on the couch and had caused multiple large gashes in the cushions, police said.

The guest had also left his iPhone in the apartment, by mistake, police said.

When the Hobokenite made a phone call with the phone he got the alleged intruder's roommate on the phone, police said. When the Hobokenite and his girlfriend went to the Union City Address to look for the man and return his phone, nobody answered the door, police said. The phone is now police evidence.

No arrests were made.

A lot of people in this building leave their locks unlocked at night, why who knows? I often close them when I see them unlocked. Management knows about this and has been emailing everyone about it. It attracts thieves and that is never any good. The apartment the intruder had slept in is a known local drunk who always loses his keys because of his battle with alcoholism and this tenant may be on the way out.

My question for PATCH is if the uninvited guest left his phone in the apartment, how did the intruders roommate pick up the phone?
This article makes very little sense, please explain.

Yes, I notated it. Latin of notare, to note. Mark, site or "to write", it's a verb. Thank you and have a nice day.
