Mayor Hires New Business Administrators
The city announced the hiring of a business administrator and a assistant business administrator on Thursday afternoon.
The city has hired a business administrator and an assistant business administrator, Mayor Dawn Zimmer announced on Thursday afternoon.
Former Ridgewood Mayor Quentin Wiest—who also worked as Business Administrator of the Borough of Closter and Director of Public Works for Bergen County—will serve as the city's new business administrator. Wiest will earn $150,000 annually, according to City Spokesman Juan Melli.
Stephen Marks, who worked as planning director for the Hudson County Division of Planning, will be the city's assistant business administrator for $125,000 annually.
Marks will "manage several important projects including acquisition of land for new parks, the $2 million grant for converting Observer Highway into 'Observer Boulevard,' and waterfront repairs at Pier A, among other projects," according to the city's press release on Thursday afternoon.
Throughout the interviewing process and based on exit interviews with former Business Administrator Arch Liston, Zimmer said she realized the need for a second person. "It's a big job," she said.
Liston will be transitioning the new directors, and will be working one day a week for the coming month, Melli said. Liston, who was hired in April 2010, quit in January.
Marks' first day is April 10 and Wiest will transition into the job throughout April, according to the city's press relesase.

Experienced, seemingly intelligent hires. The council minority is sure to be apoplectic about this. No question the knives and unsubstantiated attacks will begin soon enough.

Guys an assistant Business Manager, not like he's someone PA or secretary. Sounds like he's going to head up a couple of the town's bigger projects so not like you're going to bring in a friend of Castelano and get the results you need. Hoboken is a relatively large city, with a significant budget. We need professionals to manage it. And we should pay them for their time and service but that's a discussion for another day.

And in the end you get what you pay for. You pay a professional wage and you get professionals working and delivering results. You chinch and bring in friends of the Russo family and the next thing you know there are a million quarters missing and unaccounted for. Lets stick with the professionals and stop hiring friends and family. We do not need anymore instances of board members shaking down towing company's for $5 per tow now do we have Russo Sr. charging accounting firms tens of thousands to get the city's business.

Maybe the department could reallocate its resources from arresting dissenters on archaic warrants, harassing bloggers in front of their children and arresting city directors on trumped up political charges?
That would definitely free up some patrols to address burglaries and other matters. Thank you!

How many cops could we hire if we didn't have to waste so much money on legal bills b/c of the stupidity of the minority? They cost us a hell of a lot more than $275K w/ all the special meetings we've had to have, their attempted sabotage of the hospital sale & so forth.

Wishing them both good luck.. Yes you gotta pay for good work. The 2nd seems to be working on other projects from press report. So whats the problem? I voted old hoboken, being blinded by family push. Now i see the old guard with big penisons and still taking. Good job Mayor.

Great idea Mr. Budget!! Let's get rid of all our directors, cut down the mayor's salary to 0 and use the money to hire more cops. Then we can accuse the mayor of turning our city into a police state like she did on Lepre-con when she threw away all that taxpayer money with her racist anti-irish anti catholic parade hating agenda.
After taking over we'll solve the "police state" problem by promoting all those police officers to lieutenants and captains and having them "supervise" indoors monday-friday from 9-5.

I like they way you think, RedHaven. This sounds like a great job to have. Maybe I'll apply to the Hoboken Police Department so that even if I get laid off I can get rehired as a dispatcher if I've got the right connections, like a certain councilwoman's husband.
See you at Hooters! Don't forget your gun.

I wish the new administrators well and they sound great, but for the record, Arch Liston flustering Bet Mazin to the point of getting her to dance in her chair, throw her hands up and squawk, "I write my own STUFF" is going to be a tough act to beat.
But I hope they have fun trying.

Bob R- That was indeed a classic moment. Arch Liston was a very good BA for what Hoboken needed at the time. He was highly skilled and was a BA that put up with no BS. The hiring of the assistant addresses one of my concerns on the project management side. This should allow the administration more bandwidth and also expertise to ensure initiatives stay on schedule. If things hum along in this area it will be a hire well worth it. The Office of the Mayor's budget shoudl still be down from when Cammarano was Mayor. Oh wait he was only mayor for 30 or so days so that does not count. Ha ha.
Have a Nice Day Bob R
PS- Did you scare little fraidy cat Prosbus away or has he been Klaussened: i.e. banned int the USA! The delete fairy appears to be busy!
