Meth Lab Found in Hoboken Housing Authority Apartment

Police arrested three people after searching an apartment at 501 Marshall Drive on Monday.

Hoboken police have found a meth lab run out of an apartment at 501 Marshall Drive, said Sgt. Sam Williams.

The lab was discovered on Monday morning, after police initially responded to a routine call about a domestic dispute. It's unknown how long the lab had been operational, said Williams.

Hoboken police arrested Cynthia Rivera, 31, in whose apartment the materials to produce meth were found. Also arrested were Jessica Springman — a 29-year-old from Huntington Station, New York — and 31-year-old West New York resident Leonardo Pons.

The three are facing roughly 15 charges, including manufacturing and dispensing meth, distributing drugs within 1000 feet of school property and maintaining or operating a controlled dangerous substance facility.

Executive Director of the Hoboken Housing Authority Carmelo Garcia said that Rivera will face eviction under the HHA's "one strike policy" to ensure the safety of the rest of the residents.

When officers came into the apartment on Monday around 6:30 a.m., they found drug paraphernalia "in plain view," police said. The vice squad followed up with an investigation and tested the chemicals found in the apartment.

According to the police report, Rivera allegedly rented out the rooms in her house to function as the meth lab. According to police reports, Pons and Springman paid Rivera $175 every week.

Under HHA guidelines, it's illegal to sublet rooms.

Police took multiple paraphernalia, materials and other evidence after searching Rivera's fifth floor apartment.

"They confirmed that the chemicals that were there," Williams said, "(are) used to produce meth."

It wasn't immediately clear how much methamphetamine was produced and sold in and around Hoboken, police said.
