Mobile Mediterranean Hits The Streets Of Hoboken

A review of the falafels from Two Pitas In A Pod.

They just keep on coming: food trucks in Hoboken. After vegan food, pasta, pierogi and The Taco TruckTwo Pitas In A Pod is the newest addition to the mobile restaurant scene in the Mile Square. On one of the last warm October days last, I decided to check it out.

I arrived at the truck, which at that point was parked on Sinatra Drive between First and Second Streets, around noon. A steady stream of people ordered and waited for their food while I perused the menu. I placed my order for a Classic Falafel and Pod Frites with one of the very friendly gentleman manning the truck.  I had planned on ordering the Truffled Frites as well because I had received a glowing recommendation for them from a trusted friend and Hobokenite.  Unfortunately, the Pod was out of truffle oil so there would be no truffle frites for me on this particular day.

It didn't matter, because the food I ordered was beyond spectacular.

First, I unwrapped the Pod Frites ($3) - which were essentially french fries tossed with feta cheese, fresh garlic, parsley and lemon zest. The fries were golden and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.  The flavor was absolutely delicious with just the right combination of tangy and salty.

Next, I opened up the Classic Falafel ($5.50) which was massive in size and taste.  Diced tomatoes and cucumbers spilled out of the sides of the pita and my first bite was surprising in its slight sweetness. The falafel balls were bright green inside (much like the color of the truck) and the sandwich was filled out with crunchy pickled white cabbage, white bean hummus, tahini and chimichurri.

As someone who usually douses her falafels in hot sauce, I can happily report that this one needed no additional flavoring.

I wholeheartedly recommend the food at Two Pitas In a Pod and here's my advice: on one of the coming sunny Fall days, pay a visit to where ever the bright green truck is parked and eat a delicious Mediterranean lunch out in the sun that you won't soon forget.

Call 646-546-PITA or follow the Pod on Twitter to find out where they are parked for the day.

Looks and sounds delicious...Hope We all see the truck around town. Years ago We had trucks pass around with meals to go too. There also are the lunch trucks around but mainly for workers. Hope the pita truck has whole grain bread. It doesn't hurt to try it .
