Move Forward Fundraiser Kicks Off School Board Campaign

The event was held late last week at Room84.

Move Forward, the slate trying to win the majority of the Hoboken Board of Education, held its kick off event on Thursday at Room84.

The slate: Anthony Oland, Liz Markevitch and Felice Vazquez. The three are going up against the three Kids First candidates, who kicked off their campaign a week earlier.

School Board member and Executive Director of the Hoboken Housing Authority Carmelo Garcia was the MC of the event. Sitting school board member Peter Biancamano also attended the event.

Minority council members Theresa Castellano, Beth Mason, Michael Russo, and Tim Occhipinti were also there.

Hoboken's School Board elections will take place on Nov. 6.

The only thing missing with this blog article is simple.
WHAT DO THESE PEOPLE STAND FOR?
HOW are they going to make it better?
How are ALL of the children of Hoboken going to graduate?
How are they going to college? The Military? or a Trade?

All I see are politics, fundraisers and flyers with faces. I want to know how these candidates and the other candidates are really going to make a difference in the Hoboken school system?

Hobbs....Tough questions need real answers...enough of the politics of running for the BOE and let's get down to basics. These kids should have the best that Hoboken could offer based on the amount of taxes that go to the BOE.

Apparently the ONLY thing that the Raia/Russo/Mason BOE ticket stands for is to return the control to the OLD GUARD politicos.

That should never be allowed to happen again.

I have read the Move Forward handout. From what I could ascertain, they have 3-4 goals
1- Replace the leaders in school district-
DIdn't the district just hire a Superintendent and Principals?

2-Balance the budget and use money wisely
Hasn't the budget been at the lowest legal amount for a few years?
Hasn't the school board tax levy been flat for 3 years?
3- Have the the school district pay for enrichment and extracurricular programs for every school aged child in the city
How much will this cost the taxpayers? Won't this additonal cost raise taxes? Would this be part of the wise spending goal?
How does this work regarding financial reporting? Is that allowable?
Wouldn't this be a recreation department issue?
Who would have preference for spots in plays, chess club, Harvard Model Congress, Robotics, Johns Hopkins, summer enrichment?

-Use the schools as a resource to the entire 50,000 person population for all ages
How much will this cost? Wouldn't this raise the costs to the Board of Education and the taxpayers? Is this part of the wise spending?
Wouldn't that be the recereation department?

Any candidate worth voting for doesn't need to pass out checks to voters on election day. I dare these 3 to keep their wallets and checkbooks closed and let the voters decide on election day who to vote for w/o resorting to writing a few hundred checks to voters.

Oh look, it's Angel Alicea who was recently identified as a recipient of stolen emails, while he was trying to sue the city for unlawful termination. Hi Angel.

Kids First platform
1. Fire the best teachers. Reward the worst.
2. Make Rose Markle president again so she can abuse members of the public who dare come before her.
3. Lower test scores even to rock bottom.
4. Charter schools steal money from our kids. So abuse them all the time.
5. um, um, um

Why is Move Forward accepting illegal campaign donations? I think this city has seen enough of politicians who break the law.

"The city ruled that the Mason contribution has to be returned by the Move Forward group within 30 days.

City officials responded to Mason's letter in a statement saying that the municipal legislation, enacted last year, applies to all candidates equally.

"Hoboken's anti-wheeling law, passed in mid- 2011, clearly states that candidates for local office cannot receive or accept contributions from political committees in excess of $500," said city attorney, Mellissa Longo. "The law applies to all candidate and political committees and will be fully enforced by the City of Hoboken. Willful violations require the payment of a penalty equal to four times the amount of the illegal contribution."
