15,000 People Expected to Attend Hoboken Mumford and Sons Concert

More than 2,500 tickets have already been sold to Hoboken residents.

About 15,000 people are expected to attend an outdoor concert on Pier A Park on August 1, when British folk rock band Mumford and Sons comes to Hoboken.

The concert is expected to bring $30,000 in revenue to the city's cultural affairs trust fund. For every ticket sold, $2 will go toward the city. Tickets are $55.

Of the 15,000 available tickets, 500 will be sold in Hoboken, said City Spokesman Juan Melli. So far, he said also, more than 2,500 tickets have already been sold to Hobokenites. It's still unclear when and where in Hoboken the 500 tickets will be sold.

Director of Cultural Affairs Leo Pellegrini said on Wednesday night that the city is still in the process of finalizing the details of the night itself. The cost of the event—such as overtime to police officers and environmental services personnel—will be paid for by Mumford and Sons, Pellegrini said.

The event will be held on Pier A Park. The stage will be positioned toward the end of the pier. While the pier is in need of repairs, city spokesman Juan Melli said that Boswell Engineers have determined the pier "fair," according to a recent report. The determination means that "all primary structural elements are sound, but minor to moderate defects or deterioration is observed."

Pellegrini said that for safety reasons, the walkway along the river will be blocked from vehicular traffic up to Fifth Street.
