New Food Truck Law Passes on First Reading; Meeting For Further Discussion Scheduled

On Tuesday, food truck vendors are invited to attend a public meeting to discuss the new law.

that would increase the fee food truck owners pay to the city ten times passed on first reading during Monday night's council meeting.

The new law, which also includes some new parking regulations and prohibits trucks from parking within 50 feet of a brick and mortar establishment with a menu, needs another vote by the city council for it to go through. The ordinance passed on first reading in a 7-2 vote, with Councilmembers Beth Mason and Michael Russo voting "no."

Councilwoman Jennifer Giattino announced a public meeting for Tuesday Nov. 22, in City Hall from 5 to 7 p.m. to discuss the new measures.

The new ordinance is not applicable to Mr. Softee and hot dog carts.

Food truck owners Joe Glaser (of the La Vita Bella dessert truck) and Adam Sobel (of the Cinnamon Snail, vegan lunch truck) attended the meeting on Monday and try to convince the council to ease some of the rules.

The issue will be up for public discussion and final vote during the next council meeting on Dec. 7.
