Oddfellows Rest to Close, New Owner to Take Over
A Mexican BBQ place is scheduled to come to the location, the new owner said.
Oddfellows Rest, the Louisiana themed downtown bar, will close later this fall, said Mario Fini, the future owner of the establishment.
Fini, who recently bought Teak on the Hudson and is looking to transform the area, said that the bar will be completely transformed and open under a different name.
The new place will be a Mexican BBQ restaurant, Fini said.
Fini, the owner of Hoboken-based development firm Maridian Properties, said that Oddfellows will change hands mid-October.

How many liquor licences can one entity own in Hoboken?
It will be sad to see Odd Fellows go. I have friends in Manhattan that have come to Hoboken just to go to Odd Fellows.

State wide you can own as many as you want as long as you have a restaurant component. If you have just a bar or liquor store one person can own 2. Places like Wilton House, Room 84, Louise and Jerry's, one person may have 2. However if one person has 3 brothers than each brother can have 2 and then the family has 8. You could also own a liquor store and just alcohol bar as well.
Sad to see Odd Fellows go, wishing Mario the best with his new endeavors.

Noooooo!
Why more Mexican restaurants? If you feel the area needs to be transformed, why can't it be done while still keeping this spot a New Orleans restaurant? I've met many people that know of and only come to Hoboken because of Oddfellows.

Before Dawn Hoboken had a sister city relationship with Kenner, Louisiana. During Hurricane Katrina HPD led a relief mission to Kenner. Zimmerites focused on the one night off the rescue workers took instead of the good work they did. Many believe the photographs were photoshopped and no one has ever proven they weren't.
Now our Louisiana themed pub is closing, thanks to Dawn. It's a final slap in the face to Louisiana and the brave men who did so much for all but one night (if you even believe what have proven to be photoshopped images of some spirited hijinx.)
Slapping Louisiana in the face, higher prices for stretch-pants, law suits getting laughed at - Dawn's legacy.

The restaurant was not closed, it was sold. Buyer got a great price and sold it, same with Teak, same owner, Mario Fini who recently was quoted as saying something along the lines of revamping the area around Lackawanna Station, he would also like to coin the district "The Rail District". You can't blame Dawn for a purchase another businessman in town made. If you're going to put the blame on someone it would be the new owner or the previous owner for selling it. It's free enterprise. As for those pictures in Louisiana, it's a little hard to photoshop AR-15's and M-16's in the hands of Hooters girls and sort of impossible to even imagine someone photoshopping a confederacy cap on the head of a man with Spanish decent?

And Qdoba, Moe's Southwest Grille, Chipotle, and that new place that just opened where Sol Caribe was.

Food was great, but placed lacked atmosphere. The alligators on the window were ridiculous and bar needed a change.

I tend to go for the food, bad boring food and a great atmosphere is like putting lipstick on pig.

I know I and others will never patronize any of the businesses this Mario Fini is involved with because of him closing Oddfellows.

Like most of Hoboken...OddFellows...good food with terrible service, and TV monitors with sports games and overly loud music as "atmosphere."

Sad day indeed. So many awesome memories at oddfellows. Great service, great times with the bands that would come up from New Orleans, and great food. Thanks for so many great years. Now at least I don't have to go downtown anymore (another Mexican place?? Bah!)
