Is Hoboken Pajama Chic?

Pajama-like pants you can wear out, (NOT ones that span reading material across one of the most viewed areas...)

From leggings to “jeggings” (leggings that look like jeans), to loose, elastic-waist band pants, clothing labels are starting to sound like a cover for what they really are: stretchy pants, maternity jeans, and pajama pants. You can call them what you want, but residents aren't judging them by their names.

High-fashion and comfort are rarely ever in the same sentence. In the past few years, however, the leading trends have been geared toward more humble, universal styles. It may be a reflection of the economy, while modest fashions sometimes pose as modest prices. But the introduction of leggings, from the 80's to now, is most likely the main culprit.

Riding on the success wave of leggings, imitating their widespread appeal; humble prices; high-comfort level; and fashion-cred, “pajama pants” seemingly came rolling out of bed and onto the streets for their debut this season.  With   their elastic or drawstring waist bands and loose leg fit, ladies can breathe easy knowing that every curve or bad-waist-day won't be the main feature of their outfit.

Although they are an easy-wear pant, that doesn't mean you can't dress them up and make them a day or night option.  It also doesn't justify wearing your Victoria's Secret or Juicy Couture label-screaming sweats out on a date or to dinner with friends.  Available in plethora of fabrics like silk, jersey cotton, cotton, and polyester with fleece-lining, as well as a featuring a host of varying details, including leather patches and pockets, styling options are limitless. Pair them with a silk blouse and form-fitting blazer with high-heel ankle boots and the look becomes versatile enough for the workplace or out to dinner and cocktails.

Resident Danielle Klimachousky, shares her dissenting viewpoint of pajama pants in the fashion scene.

"I think they were cute for summer, as relaxed beachy wear, but I don't think they look professional or particularly chic."

Pajama pants have been sold year-round in Hoboken and getting snagged not only during more fashion-forgiving seasons, like summer.

"Pajama pants are my favorite kind of pants!" gushes Hoboken resident, Rebecca Hadley.  "I especially love them during the fall with a leather bomber jacket and stilettos."

Comfortable fashion seems too good to be true for some

Pajama pant suggests a frumpy, careless style, but with the right accessories and attitude, you can be comfortable and stylish at the same time.
