Post Irene, Clean-Up Continues
Fire Department and Environmental Services Department at work all over town on Monday.
Normalcy seemed to have returned to Hoboken on Monday morning, with clear and sunny skies over the city, a clear view across the river and stores and restaurants open for business. Now, what's left to do, is the clean up of the city, as Hobokenites wait for the last portions of flood water to recede.
Environmental Services crews were out collecting debris and taking care of fallen trees, while the fire department hosed down sludge, according to the city.
The parking authority didn't enforce street cleaning parking rules, because a lot of people who evacuated may not have returned yet. On Tuesday, though, regular rules are back in effect.
The first garbage pick up since the storm was scheduled for Monday night. The city announced it would pick up sandbags and damaged furniture on Tuesday, if placed on the curb. Residents can also bring items to the municipal garage on Observer and Park, where dumpsters will be available every night after 8 p.m. until Friday.
The city asked people to come to Church Square Park, where city officials instructed volunteers on Monday morning, to volunteer and clean up debris and other mess that was a result of the hurricane.
As of 10 a.m. on Monday, the command center—which was located in City Hall—was closed. At 8 a.m. the Wallace School shelter was closed.
Earlier in the morning, at 4 a.m., the PATH trains resumed service.
City Hall was operating on regular hours on Monday.
The Hoboken Public Library was supposed to open at 1 p.m. on Monday. Post offices were open in Hoboken on Monday.
Power was switched back on slowly on Sunday night, leaving some residents still powerless, especially in the southwestern part of town. In Hoboken, about 9,000 people were without power after PSE&G turned it off on Sunday afternoon.

I just want to say Thank God we were spared the mother of all floods and thank you to the mayor and municipal workers, and all the volunteers who donated their time to the safety and the clean up of Hoboken. Community spirit is certainly on the rise.

Don't you know, this whole hurricane was created by Zimmer bloggers, Gov Christie and God! Yes, Zimmer created it to distract from hiring two directors, one with FBI credentials- we don't need no stinkin' FBI here all they want to do is condemn people with vowels at the end of their last names.
Like Mason, Klaussen and Minion...
