Rebuild Hoboken Gears Up for Star Studded Fundraiser
A gala will be held on February 2.
Rebuild Hoboken, the city's relief fund, is currently in the process of organizing its biggest event to date.
After receiving a $250,000 donation last week from Haven Savings Bank, the committee is now in the midst of preparing a star studded event at the W Hotel on February 2.
The Manzo Brothers — Hobokenites Albie and Chris — told The Dish that they will be present at the event, and may show up with more family members.
According to Jackie Burton, who is on the Rebuild Hoboken committee, said the organizers are currently "reviewing teams, traffic flow, décor, required staff numbers and starting a list of what celebrities could be approached to attend."
Hobokenites can attend the event, tickets will be available at multiple price points.
CBS entertainment reporter Katie McGee will be the emcee of the event, Burton said.
Sandy victims in Hoboken can apply for money from the Rebuild Hoboken fund until January 20, although that is a flexible deadline, Chairman Bernie Kenny said. The goal is to get money to affected Hobokenites by February, Kenny said.

Wow! The Manzo brothers and family! You don't get bigger stars than that I tell you!
Could someone tell me who the Manzo brothers are?

This would seem to be one of those golden opportunities to "reach across the aisle" like CuriousGal is always saying the majority and Zimmer should do with the minority.
But watch to see if a single member of the minority shows up. Tim Occhipinti who uses his Facebook page to announce parking trivia has never mentioned Rebuild Hoboken. Mike Russo (claims he) gave money to some unspecified state charity in the name of Hoboken (?) Beth Mason ran a highly political fundraiser to build a rep in the county that everyone blew off; she wound up busing seniors from Hoboken to fill seats. If you click the donate button on her website, the account is dead. Losers.
Reach across the aisle to what? People who can't even support a charity for their own neighbors if they think it might reflect positively on the mayor?

Our family owned business suffered major damage due Hurricane Sandy and we are personally grateful to anyone that is lending their 5 minutes of stardom to the cause.

The application for relief funding states "to qualify for a grant, you must have a Hoboken address and a storm-related net loss of $5000. Question. Do Hoboken residents who suffered damage to their shore vacation homes qualify? There are quite a few of them.

Talk to Mike Russo. First, he is similarly situated, and given that he paid $1 for his property, the damage is likely substantially in excess of his purchase price. Second, he promised to give the money he would have spent on christmas cards to help statewide victims. Not sure how much cheaper a robo-call to folks like me outside of his district was then sending a card.

How many residents in Hoboken REALLY need charity? Plus the loss must be higher then $5000?????? Certainly not geared to help any low income tenant that had a loss.

I have a friend who lives in a basement apartment and lost everything. She already filled out her form. She makes <$30,000 a year, and that's why she lives in a basement apartment with roommates. Rent is cheap.

I have been working on the rebuild hoboken gala with a lot of people. Albie and Chris have been an incredible help and attend all our meetings and share emails with all of us about ideas. They're been instrumental in getting this task accomplished. For those who say they're looking for attention, not the case at all. Albie and Chris have been a huge help with the event were putting together. Everyone that is working on this has done incredible work. Great team of people working hard to help Hoboken out.
