Renovation of Mama Johnson Field Supposed to be Done By Spring

The city and the Hoboken Housing Authority entered into a shared service agreement for Mama Johnson Field.

Come spring, Mama Johnson Field—which is located in the Hoboken Housing Authority—should be returfed, renovated and ready for use, according to Fourth Ward Councilman Tim Occhipinti.

The City Council voted unanimously to enter into a shared service contract with the Hoboken Housing Authority to facilitate speedy returfing and draining of the field.

The project has been a point of discussion for a long time, and initially Occhipinti said groundbreaking would happen last spring.

The renovation will be paid for by a bond that the city council already approved earlier this year, Occhipinti said.

"The city doesn’t have enough recreational place for kids to play on," Occhipinti said during a recent council meeting. "This agreement is best for everyone involved."

Occhipinti called it a win for the Housing Authority—which is federal property—as well as for the city.

Mama Johnson Field and the Little League Field are currently the only two fields in Hoboken that are available for public leagues and use. A field was planned for 1600 Park, but that park won't open until at least the Fall of 2012.

I would love to get a timeline and scope of Occhipinti's participation with the project. All the meetings he must have attended, the documents he either prepared or marked up. I'm sure it would be a facinating read.
.
It would also be nice to understand why bonding for this park is okay but bonding for the traffic light that allows the northern park to be built is wrong.
.
Claire any chance Tim would be willing to provide either?

FAP, as a citizen you can request minutes from meetings, documents, bids, and much information from the city clerk by filing an OPRA (Open Public Records Act) request. You may request the information to be sent electronically or on paper (the city clerk may charge you for copies). There is a specific period of time within which the clerk must fulfill your request. Hopefully your curiosity can be satisfied this way.

Amazing Tim votes to help the kids, but stiffs the adults- our police, fire and maintenance workers who need renovations and replacement of facilities and equipment as well. FAP: we need bonding for this needed item(s) too. Here Tim and MORC are 100% AWOL. All you'll get from Tim is puff piece answers.

"A field was planned for 1600 Park, but that park won't open until at least the Fall of 2012."

Due to the fact that Mr "Press Release / Photo Op" Occhipinti voted lockstep with the Old Guard to shoot down the bond for the traffic light that would have had 1600 Park open about a year sooner. You know, those same folks (Ms Mason, Mr Russo and Ms Castelanno) who just cost the town about 4 million dollars voting politically instead of rationally.

Don't believe the Occhipinti "pro-parks" hype. Totally style without substance.

This Tim Occhipinti seems like a pandering do-nothing who only breaks a sweat when it comes to coattail-riding and press-releasing other people's work. What a joke. Seriously, a joke. He steals plans from meetings, votes against parks while pretending to be a parks champion, and makes silly, illogical arguments to rationalize his marching-ordered votes.

At council meetings, I look at Castellano and think, ok, this is one nasty lady, but at least she knows which side her bread is buttered on and she stands firm. I can respect that. I look at Russo and think, ok, this guy is a blowhard, a pandering pontificator and a crook, but he's fighting for a way of life that is the only thing he's ever known. I can respect that. I look at Mason and think, wow, this woman is beyond crazy and is clearly no longer able to think clear-headedly about what she's doing. She's cast her lot where she's cast it and doesn't know how to turn back even if she wanted to. She's insane and destructive, but she seems to be at least partly a victim of her own mental collapse. I can respect that.

Tim, I cannot respect.

What's the matter afraid that all this bile will go unread on MSV. The turfing of Mama Johnson has ruminated at the HHA for years. When Lenz's lost and the council majority switched, a group of citizens met to proritize upgrades to our parks. Mama Johnson loomed large, as well as, Church Square Park, 1600 Park etc. Nino was the point person carring the plan at the council level. A small bond was approved and the HFA handed to the city a +$60,000 check to help defray the cost of Church Square Park. 1600 Park is stymied by a redesign and the realization of traffic at the foot of the viaduct. For some reason, the approved plans for the Chuch Square Park playground will now be conflated in a larger renovation plan. That Mama Johnson is proceeding is indeed due to the efforts of Tim and Carmelo Garcia. veryone one else sat on their hands.

Mr. Belfiore, surely you've already read the news yourself, MSV surpassed a million hits this week - and I'm sure you are one of Mile Square View's voracious customers.

I've spoken on this matter to both Carmelo Garcia and Director Leo Pellegrini. Tim Occhipinti is a transient who came to Hoboken that you supported in a very questionable election. Let's see what the Attorney General and the Newark Federal Attorneys have to say before we invest more hot air on the vacuous Tim Occhipinti.

Earlier this year MORTe which at that time did include Old Guard stalwart Nino Giacchi said they were going to present a parks plan. It never happened.

To come back now months later and attempt such revisionist history so soon is frankly silly.

1600 Park is stymied as you said by MORTe's obstruction. You know it, I know it and plywood absolutely knows it. You are barking up the wrong tree. That project is near and dear to that lighter than balsa wood.

You can't trick people who have the most interest in this stuff. It's a waste of time. Obfuscate on another topic. This one ain't happening.

See you soon at the Mile Square View.

The tree thing is somewhat amusing.

My opinion on the field is thus:
Carmelo Garcia only does things that he thinks will get him a bigger federal paycheck from HUD. So if he helped at all, it was probably only because it was within the scope of his job & with the hope of getting noticed from above. The guy is one step above incompetent.
Tim O probably said "This is a good idea" and has now decided that he's the reason the field is getting refurbished. He really appears to be THAT stupid.
I'd guess that the Mayor, the BA & Pelligrino got this field done. The fact that they voted to bond for this field is attributable to ONE thing - the current minority was then the majority & couldn't afford not to. They're all pathetic human beings that I can't wait to see rotting in jail. I think that Terry & Timmy will be the only two who don't, but I'll be very satisfied to know Mikey & Beth are using soap on a rope. Of course, with Mikey playing the part of a jack-in-the-box at the last meeting at the mention of the FBI, it seems to me he may have already turned state's evidence to save his hide. For a fat guy he's pretty quick, right?

Well he's one case where it's not Like Father Like Son. I have a feeling he's more like Petey than we knew. The both of them, along with Riccardi are canaries.

Perry's problem is that he's not on the inside anymore and Tim is not smart enough to give Perry enough info to piece together a plausible story.
.
Perry it was the Mayor's office via Director Leo Pellegrini that put the park plan together and the Business administrator who organized financing. They did this in conjunction with Executive Director Garcia.
.
From what I understand Tim's contribution was to periodically ask the grown ups how their work was going.
.
Perry if you want to live in your fantasy world be my guest. However if you want to convince us all you have to do is have Tim release the many emails he must have exchanged in planning this park and arranging financing. It Languished due to a concept plan but the funding has been in place for months. There is no correlation between 1600 and Mama Johnson. The delay at 1600 is for redesign not the traffic light on a county road. But again the parking Utility had a 3.1 Million dollars surplus, why bond for the light. The whole world is reducing debt while recently Hoboken hasn't seen and over inflated bond that it didn't like. Khoboken, purient imagery. bodering on an unhealty fantasy. OK, please, Mr Belfiore, I will say emphatically now this is just nonsense you are spreading about 1600 Park. The delay on construction is absolutely not for the redesign. On the timeline for the project, the redesign is in second position behind the bonding that was shot down by the Old Guard. The idea of bonding for 1600 Park traffic light so we didn't have to wait a year for the funding (which would have been reimbursed in time) at the county level was totally in order and the council minority voted it down out of political spite. I honestly don't know why Ms Castellano, Ms Mason, Mr Russo and Mr Occhipinti put politics in front of our kids having an adequate inventory of athletic available at long last. That's just wrong. Those facts are common knowledge, not this "we have money laying around" number that is often sent up to see who salutes. BTW, thanks for the holiday season layoffs, Old Guard. Mr Belfiore, you are running off the rails here, the retrofit apologist canards are just a shoe that doesn't fit to explain why the council minority is voting so irresponsibly. Why don't we just drop 1600 Park out of this discussion as it will only serve to showcase the Old Guard obstructionist agenda.

It should have been Mr Pelligrini rolling out this press release about Mama Johnson, with you in the background "looking on". That, at best, is the relationship of the relative contributions. BTW, Mr Occhipinti, when you torpedoed getting 1600 Park open anytime soon, you showed your hand on parks. Oh Mr Belfiore, just stop. The 1600 Park athletic field was sidetracked by the traffic light entanglement, which was further derailed by the Old Guard council minority. The traffic light was suggested by a member of the public, and once that red flag went up, the research was done and the light was mandated. But you knew that.

The term Old Guard has nothing to do with an individual's age. It has to do with being a member of the "I do for you, you do for me" school of thought that thinks votes are something to be bought and profit for the insiders trumps all notions of right and wrong. The pathological aspect comes into play when one considers that despite being financially comfortable from clandestinely climbing up over the backs of others, acting in a moral and upright fashion still doesn't seem to make sense to the Old Guard.

Perry for someone who has been a gadfly of city government you show an amazing ignorance of how things work. Neither Nino nor Tim arranged funding for the HHA park nor did they write the legislation that the arranged the funding. The Mayor's office put together the funding and negotiated the park plans. Tim would like to take credit for the work of others but I find that dishonest and Hoboken has had enough of dishonesty.
.
The HHA field and 1600 park have one significant thing in common. They both need bonding to expedite their construction. Tim says he's categorically against bonding however he voted for the HHA bond. If bonding is bad why is Tim not calling for the funds for HHA to come from general revenue? Tim was called out on this at the last meeting and he looked ridiculous as he floundered for an answer.
.
Bonding for capital improvements or durable goods is entirely appropriate. It smooths out spending over the life of the purchase and avoids spending spikes that could necessitate layoffs one year while giving a City an over large surplus the next. It's one of the basics of budgeting, but why should anyone expect Tim to know the basics when he can't comprehend a bond's structure even when he's walked through it.

The impetus was the tenacity exhibited in the private fundraising, some $60,000 which was donated to the city, by Moms who wanted to upgrade the playgound at Ghurch Square Park. The point person was former Director Maier By the way where is that $60,000? This was further exhibited in voting for $16,000,000 to repair Sinatra Park, a project 2.5 years in the making and $20,000,000 for undisclosd open space. Add to that $17,000,000 needed to buy back the Municipal Garage because this Administration bungled the NFA Letter and you are talking serious dedt obligation in uncertain economic times. Arch Liston has stated and was repeated at the council that the Parking surplus can only be used for the needs of the Utility. Why not mitigate the Midtown Garage debt with the Parking surplus and bond for the difference.

I don't believe that she knew anything about Pupie's questionable vote harvesting skillset. Evidence that backs my belief includes her jettisoning him with the trash before she ran for Mayor.

Regarding the lotto tickets- the intrinsic value of the lotto ticket is what was paid for it. I don't think handing out $1 with campaign literature is buying a vote. I don't think a court would have found it to be. But I leave the law to the lawyers and say that my gut tells me that Dawn Zimmer is honest. Evidence to back that up is that you, and people of your ilk, don't support her, don't like her, are afraid of what she's doing & say things like "I didn't have a plan B" when sCammarano got arrested.

Perry, you've ALWAYS backed the bad guy. The fact that you (and your friends) don't back Dawn is the biggest endorsement she's got going for her with my yuppie friends!

I just saw this thread for the first time and found it highly entertaining. thank you Perry and Prosbus (and Tim!!) Particularly amusing was the part where Prosbus talks about "moral victories." In 2009 when Zimmer was elected by something like 20%, the anti-Zimmer narrative was that Zimmer had really lost even though she got to be mayor because "anybody but Dawn" had gotten more votes than she had. Tell us Prosbus and Perry - which victory was real and which was "moral."

Last May, the reform wing won back control over the City Council winning 2 Ward races despite the widely disseminated pre-election claim that the anti-zimmer faction would "sweep six." The anti-zimmer folks proudly announced that despite losing control of the Council, they had actually won because their candidates collectively got 1000 more votes than the reformers. Tell us Prosbus and Perry - which victory is real and which is "moral."

Maybe posting about lottery tickets reflects another one of those "real victories" for you - If I recall Zimmer got the Council seat but that was probably only a "moral victory" too!!

You guys crack me up. Please don't let the FBI cart you away for awhile. I'm probably moving to the left coast in a few months and I'll need this stuff to keep from feeling homesick after the move.

Mayor Zimmer has been out spent in just about every race she's ever run in. Forget about the unreported cash that's used for funny business I'm talking the money the Old Guard actually admits to spending
.
Then Councilwoman Zimmer stepping down was a tactical decision. People knew that with only an 8 vote margin separating the candidates and enough people honestly mishandling their own mail in ballots** a judge would eventually order a new race. Councilwoman Zimmer by stepping down choose the date of the re-run to coincide with existing November elections. In that Nov election she defeated her opponent by about 125 votes and on the machines
.
As for the "lottery" lie, one dollar scratch offs were attached as attention getters to flyers that said "Don't Gamble with Your Future". At no time was anything given in exchange for a promise of support. I was there and I know that for a fact. In fact Campos and his team knew I was there and because they knew it was a dry well decided not to bother to ask me any questions.
.
I'm sorry Perry that when you close you eyes at night you need to believe everyone is like the Old Guard. We're not and don't want to be. Mayor Zimmer has hired competent professionals instead of corrupt friends, she's cut the tax levy instead of dolling out tax dollars as favors.

Could it just be that I abhor hypocrisy such as Lenz pontification against patronage while living off the public for 10 years. Or Vacuity such as this city squandering +$200,000 in an insane debacle to move the Municipal Garage engendering 2 law suits and the most egarious act I have ever witnessed; the illegal ursurping of another's lease. This city is being run into the ground. Planned development has come to a stand still, legal fees have quadrupled to $2.000.000, overtime in the Fire department topped $1,000.000 and we have less open space today them we did 3 years ago, while children pay $25.00 to play in mud or in Weehawken. As to your friends, time will tell. This thread is about Moma Johnson's Field and given the dearth of usable open space we should all be cheering on a sucessful completion

I've never been questioned by the FBI or the US Attorney unless you count questions about the menu when I was waitressing. Also I oppose mama Russo being given a union city patronage job because I particularly oppose cross border patronage since the "payback" is likely to be more nefarious.

Owl- This may cause a ripple but I have always thought of Patronage as creating a position where none is needed, It is a given that both Michael and Michelle occupy position that predate their employment therfore neither was created expressly for them.So the difference between the two, in my mind, is that Michael made a career of denigrating Patronage while in pursit of it. As to Michael you have it wrong, I like him. I served on the school board with him and we had many spirited discussion leading to improving the system. Michelle has been a friend for years. Thank you for your own personal definition of patronage. A definition more widely recognized would be: "a type of corruption or favoritism in which a party in power rewards groups, families, ethnicities for their electoral support using illegal gifts or fraudulently-awarded appointments or government contracts."

As you can see it has nothing to do with whether a job was pre-existing or not. It has to do with the reasons why a particular person was given the job.

Please let us know whether based on this definition, the hiring of Michelle Ruuso to a UC BOE job constitutes patronage. Also, was I correct in my earlier post as to the amount of the settlement for the most "egarious act" you've ever seen? I recall seeing a reference to it (minus the word "egarious" which I don't understand) but I haven't been able to find it again. Since you considered the act so "egarious" I thought you might know.

As interesting as this smorgasbord of issues and sniping in this thread is, I would like to make an attempt to get back on topic. Here's the set-up. Mama Johnson Field was always the stepchild of the Little League Field. Over the last say, for this discussion, ten years, the athletic programs have burgeoned. In particular, the interest in organized municipal youth sports has exploded. All was moving along fine, we even added a much-needed soccer field on the water front during strong economic times. A jewel in the crown for Hoboken. Life was good.

Fast forward. The waterfront soccer field falls into the Hudson. Why? Turns out it was built on the cheap with fuzzy science and fuzzy engineering. Who knows how much money went south with the decision to build a brand new soccer field pier on a 100 year old pier foundation. So this great triumph to the Russo administration was literally built on a shaky foundation.

However, the athletic programs have continued to burgeon. We learn that it will take I believe over $20 mil (? help me out here Mr Siegel) to rebuild it. Plus environmental concerns, state involvement, blasé, blasé, blasé. Short version is we are on the 10 year plan over there.

(con't) So as a result of this massive screwup by prior administrations, with no culpability assigned to thoses who screwed up, Hoboken has had to make do with inadequate field space. Mama Johnson Field, owed by the Housing Authority, starts to come into it's own instead of being fallow and padlocked most of the time. Problem is, "terrible shape" doesn't begin to cover what is wrong with it. Time to renovate!

Well, when is the last time it was renovated? I can remember that once in the not too distant past a fair amount of money was sunk into Mama Johnson Field. What happened to that money? The field presently makes the surface of the moon look smooth. Massive drainage issues. What happened with all that money? Huh Mr Belfiore? What did your heroes do with that pot of gold?

Well here we come again. I believe the the Hoboken Youth Soccer and the Hoboken Little League have been campaigning for years to get Mama Johnson into better condition. The Old Guard gave a lot of lip service to parks initiatives, but essentially got nothing done. The children of Hoboken wait year after year for the town to get it's act together and renovate Mama John "again". Meanwhile, it is in such deplorable shape it is literally a tripping hazard to play sports on.

(con't) I don't see it as a coincidence that it is under the banner of the Zimmer administration that this long ballyhooed project is finally finding itself done. I also think Mr Garcia (Housing Authority) deserves a fair amount of credit for keeping this initiative on the front burner. But as well, I have seen and heard of the strides that Mr Pelligrini, himself a sports enthusiast, has made in responding to the exploding need for athletic field space. The tough kinks get ironed out to get the Mama Johnson project in motion, the renovation of Mama Johnson finally kicks into gear under this administration's watch, and we are supposed to believe that a councilperson that has been in office for a year is the main reason this got done now? That Mr Pelligrini doesn't rank a photo in an article about this? Where did this article come from? You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to see who is primarily grabbing publicity and who the unsung heroes are in this tale, and particularly in the case of organized sports, for example Mr Cardillo in soccer and Mr Rotundi in baseball walked the walk while Mr Occhipinti steals the headlines. That's just wrong, but if the field gets fixed, I'll take it. But take it easy on keeping the real heroes' light under a basket.

Kurt on Oct 21 Claie reported a traffic light was holding up 1600 Park yet we all know the park is out for redesign. The way I would handle this is to do the traffic study with the Utility and make installation of the light if not fundeed by the County part of the construction bond. Scott. Sinatra Park is a stand alone bond there was a small bond, under 2M for park upgrades. Perhaps you know where the 60K the Moms donated to the city for Chuch Square Park upgrade went to? He was a very effective binder reader and puppet. Since then he has consistently risen to the occasion by voting in the most irresponsible, reckless and obstructionist manner possible all so he and the minority can make a mess and force Zimmer to either raise taxes or lay people off. He does so take his orders well though it is also obvious the man has no clue what is going on whenever he goes off script. Other than that, he has done nothing but become someone people like you need to make excuses for or promote b/c the man has done absolutely nothing worth noting in his time on the CC. Dawn crashed a party and stop the fundraising stating the city would come up matching funds on a two to one basis. The Moms handed over a check and Dawn took your advice not to honor the committment. Shouldn't the Moms get the money back because if they didn't stop fundraising the playground upgrades would have been done last spring. Again this pastyear saw 2Mfor park upgrades is, 12M for Sinatra, 20M, which isn't a fifth of the total need, for undisclosed open space approved and, 17M buy back of municipal garage approved and issued. Scott, The only side I am on is Hoboken's. In the last two Months Dawn has asked for a 2,000,000 bond to cover retro pay inreases. When did bonding for operating expenses become accepted. She further went on to ask for a $19,000,000, with +200,000 in fees, when the outstanding obligation at the Midtown Garage is $17,000,000. We then found out that only $4,500,000 of the note is subject to IRS penalty. Later it was statred that of the $4,500,000 $3,100,000 of the Utility surplus had been applied reducing exposure to around $1,500,000. If we have no surplus in the new Fiscal year whing begins in January, why not bond for the $1,500,000 which is all the money needed reducing fees and debt.

Also - a word to the wise. In both your written and oral presentations, you seem to strive to use as many big words as possible, often incorrectly both in terms of spelling/pronunciation and usage. This perhaps makes you seem intelligent to those less intelligent and less educated than you, but has the opposite effect on those with average intelligence or higher. You might want to reflect on who your target audience is and what your goal is and consider whether this is an effective tactic.

Your selective mixture of truth and falsehoods is not nearly as skillfully fabricated as the brilliant diatribes of the minion - if your goal is to be compared favorably with the "not paid for friendship" couple, you are aiming too high. Despite having rendered themselves completely ineffective, their skill set dwarfs yours and when you parrot their tactics you just highlight their strengths and your own weaknesses.

The tactics that you have employed somewhat effectively within your political base over the years make you somewhat of a laughing stock when you venture outside. If your goal is to simply entertain, then keep up the good work. If your goal is to persuade then you might want to consider another approach.

It had absolutely nothing to do with the use of government power and the idea that anybody's "dreams were destroyed" is silly beyond belief. The settlement speaks for itself - it represents reality something you seem to be rarely familiar with.

Many of us who have company emails which a corrupt administrator could easily access and misuse consider the theft and misuse of City emails to be a truly egregious act. Apparently the DOJ agrees. The fact that you think a civil matter settled for nuisance value is egregious while having no apparent problem with criminal behavior that strikes home to so many of us both in the public and private sector says all that needs be said.

Perry your hypocrisy is hard to stomach. The property was never taken by anyone, certainly not the city. The owner leased it to two separate parties. In the end neither party, nor their hopes and dreams, were injured hence the nominal fee. What you did see was a big difference from old guard Mayors. Old Guard Mayors would have paid hundreds of thousands of dollars but a competent administration pays less than one tenth of that.

But let's talk of hopes and dreams.
.
When Mike Russo takes a bribe he betrays the hopes and dreams of us all.
.
When Anthony Russo takes a bribe he not only betrayed our hopes and dreams he actually sold them for personal gain.
.
When Ed Duroy uses the public trust to hire less competent people he betrays the hopes and dreams of adults and children.
.
Perry you and the old guard have betrayed so many hopes and dreams the only solace you can find in the desperate hope that Mayor Zimmer and reformers are just as bad as you are. I'm sorry but I don't think that holds up.
.
Perry I was raised Catholic and I learned the first step of forgiveness is admittance of guilt. If you are ever going to be able to forgive yourself for the host of terrible people you supported and the personal gains you reaped from it you'll first have to admit what you did, to yourself if no one else.

Off topic; Interesting stuff in the Reporter this weekend - interview with new hospital ceo and a article mentioning zealous Hoboken prosecutor. Wonder if PATCH will have any articles on the subject? Can't comment on HOLA cause i don't have a clue as to what is going on there.

Furde,
The city knew of the preexisting lease and still squatted on another's property rights. Do you not realize that. Kates admitted the city and Zimmer knew but it was an inconvience that would be steamroller by an out of control desperate Administration. Nothing less than an abuse of power to anyone who believes in civil liberties. But keep on trying to spin this by reducing the award or blaming the property.owner If you were wise you would drop the issue and not continue to remind people of the vacuilty and insensitivity which is at the core of this administration.

Perry - please explain why,if Doggy Day Care had such a strong case based on whatever you think Kates admitted, the case settled for nuisance value. Again Perry - that would be called REALITY. That's got 4 syllables but only 7 letters so perhaps you could look it up in the dictionary and with practice learn to use it correctly. Its also hard to mispronounce so its a good word for you to use at Council meetings without messing up.

Perry what I'm seeing is a person judging what happened based on their motivations and not what actually happened. Perhaps you and the people you support in the past tried to run people off, possibly for personal gain, by doing what you suggest but that's not what happened here. If it had the fees involved wouldn't have been so trivial.
.
It would explain why past administrations left almost no records of their actions over the years. They didn't want future administrations to find their crimes.

I apologize for being off topic, but Hoboken Unleashed wanted to move where the Bier Garden is. I was the only member of the public to support them. Now they are moving to Newport shortly. If the Nino led council had supported our local business' as I did their jobs would still be in Hoboken.

Forde,
What fees?Your reality testing is faulty. Are you are attempting to trivialize the relocation of a man's business and dreams forced by flagrant governmental abuse. Check the veracity of my narrative by reading Claire's reporting.. You sir, are the one blinded by friendship. I assure you, had the name of the Mayor performing this flagrant abuse of power not be Zimmer, you would be manning the barricades.

Perry Befliores is not blinded by his "friendship" with the likes of the Russos, Cammarano, Occhipinti the Masons, etc....he knows exactly what they are, what they have done and why they have done it he just doesn't care as they are on the same side.

His efforts here are only tho defend them if he can with half truths and whole lies and if that even fails try to sling enough mud around to try to discredit the whole discussion.

Like his friends the Russos and the Masons he has reached a point that nothing can shame him anymore.

Trivialize the relocation of a man's business? The warehouse uptown where the man wanted to relocate his business has been sitting vacant w/ not even so much as a wheelbarrow owned by the city for how long? Clearly the man never moved his business up there and he is relocating to Newport for reasons other than Hoboken having relocated the muni garage to that location. We aren't using that facility and haven't been using it quite some time. Please save your specious arguments for people who are less aware and gullible enough to believe that passing out hundreds of $40 checks to people who give a candidate their absentee ballot isn't vote buying.

Perry - it's hard to tell whether you actually don't understand what happened or are just pretending, but I'll play along. There was a civil dispute involving conflicting contractual rights, having nothing to do with the use, much less abuse, of government power. One party happened to be the City of Hoboken but that does not mean that "governmental power" was used in any way. It was not. The situation would have been the same had the landlord rented the space on a short term basis to a private individual or entity. The dispute was litigated and the litigation was settled for nuisance value- about $10,000 (I think, but your failure to correct me implies my recollection is correct). The settlement amount makes clear that Doggy Day Care's lawyer did not have much confidence in the strength of their case in an actual court of law. as I'm sure you know, litigations are not decided in claire Moses's column. Pointing to Claire's reporting as truth while pretending that the resolution of the actual litigation somehow doesn't matter is nothing short of delusional (or dishonest). This is what's called REALITY. Denying reality is a sign of either stupidity, dishonesty or mental illness. While I've never actually met you except through your Council Meeting and online personas, I do not believe you are either stupid or mentally ill. That leaves but one choice.

Scott,
You are wrong. I was on the Planning Board .The council was attemting to change zoning which would have allowed dog runs in a significant portion of the city. Citizen spoke out decrying the change. The council voted against this unintended consequence. Staglione then found a less impactful location which this Administration squatted on. Blaming the council in an attemt to excuse the bad behavior effectuate by the Zimmer Administration is a perverse warping of logic and revisionist history. Red, Staglione could not hazard zoning board approval after suing the city. .Zimmer even had Mayor Turner, who was pursuing a share services agreement for use by Weehawken's DPW, bus protestors to Zoning Board meetings. But I guess It is okay for government to screw the little guy as long as you like the mayor. Hobbs, I never defended Peter and I don't know what Tim nor Beth have to do with Doggy Day Care. Your animosity is too high take time to hug yourself. Perhaps if you dislike yourself less you will like others more.

I know full well the man couldn't get zoning. That is why he never located there. It had nothing to do w/ the city's temporary relocation there and everything to do w/ the fact that the man completely alienated everyone in city hall and half the people in Hoboken. Not one person in this community lifted a finger to help him and w/ no support, there goes any chance of him getting zoning approval. Though I suspect if he had a fat enough envelope of cash and the people you supported were in office, he could have gotten what he wanted. Your people roll like that.

Yeah, you probably ignored it b/c the guy had no case. Let's just say he sued city hall, acted as a patsy for Mason, Russo & the rest of the crooks and found himself on the wrong side of the people he needed to beg some zoning variances from. Had he just kept silent, the city would have moved out once the muni garage sale fell through and he might have earned some goodwill from the mayor. Pretty dumb move on his part.

Green,
Last post of the evening. A distrust of government is not only healty but required. The settlement was for $15,000 but this was not a conflict between equals as in two prvate companies. This was a conflict between the government of Hoboken with the almost limitless ability to use taxpayer's monies to fund a lawsuit and a private citizen who was borrowing dollars to augment a business model. The outcome was never in dispute until the courts forced Hoboken to vacate the site, in the dead of night, by asking our cracked legal team "what were you thinking". You follow a slippery slope if you reduce government abuse with settlement dollars. A government has the ability to grind down a private citizen and we as a society must be vigilant in never allowing that to occur. You like this Mayor. Fine. But we cannot accept bad acts creating precedent because you may not like the next mayor, or worse it may be your lease.
TTFN.,

Perry thank you for proving my earlier point. Perry assumes that Mayor Zimmer would have "ground Staglione into powder" because that's what he and the people he has supported would have done. Maybe they would have spared Staglione if he hired a few of their friends or gave them a "campaign contribution" preferably in cash.
.
Perry if you stand with the abusers and thieves long enough it's impossible not to assume everyone will steal and abuse the public trust.
