Service Added to 126 Bus During Morning Rush Hour

NJ Transit will be adding more buses during rush hour.

The long lines to wait to get into the #126 bus may be history.

NJ Transit has announced it will add five trips to the 126, which goes along Clinton Street. The new trips depart Clinton Street at Newark Avenue at 8:32 a.m., 8:35 a.m., 8:36 a.m., 8:40 a.m., and 8:42 a.m.

The city and Fourth Ward Councilman Tim Occhipinti both sent out separate press releases on Wednesday claiming credit. The new service started Wednesday morning.

"Residents expressed their concerns, and I said I would get to work on them. We’re now seeing results,” Occhipinti said in the release.

According to Occhipinti's release, beginning in June, the #85 bus will be rerouted to go through the intersection of Monroe Street and Observer Highway. Currently, the bus makes a turn on Monroe at this intersection, resulting in frequent traffic jams, especially during the morning and evening rush hours.

According to the mayor's release: "In March, Mayor Zimmer sent NJ Transit a ridership study conducted by the city indicating that in one instance, five consecutive buses between 8:38am and 8:48am skipped the stop at Willow Avenue and 14th Street because they were already at capacity."
