State aid to Hoboken will remain flat under Governor Christie's proposed $32.1 billion budget, figures released by the Department of Community Affairs show.
Hoboken will receive the exact same amount as last year: $11,113,035.
Finance Director Nick Tresante said recently that he anticipated that state aid would remain roughly the same. The city is currently drafting a final 2012 budget.
On Wednesday night, during a special meeting, Councilman Peter Cunningham said he expects the new budget will be introduced to the council around March 5.
After the introduction, the city council members can make amendments and public budget workshops will have to be scheduled.
It's likely that the budget will be passed around mid-April.
State aid is used to help control property taxes, and Christie said no town would see its aid cut.
“This stable funding – coupled with such reforms as the 2% property tax cap, pension and health benefit reform and a 2% cap on interest arbitration awards – is driving down the cost of local government and controlling the property tax problem," Christie said in a statement.
A report by NJSpotlight.com, however, found property taxes have risen 20 percent in the last two years.

Not knowing what State Aid is going to be makes it is impossible to draft an acccurate City Budget.
While more State aid would have been better getting the same as last year in this financial climate it isn't bad. :-)

All that butt kissing by your mayor didn't payoff, now did it? Even towns whose mayor's didn't kiss the ring got the same amount or more over last year.
If the city increases the budget by 2% and stays under the cap it would be an effective 2% cut in state aid.

More of the usual out of control hate.

We probably had the most resistance from the state concerning increasing our funding since it became painfully obvious that Ms Mason, Mr Russo, Ms Castellano and Mr Occhipinti can not be trusted with ANYONE'S money since they vote imprudently with the only thing mattering being their reckless politics of destruction of their opponents. They very actively waste taxpayer money and need to be cut off from having input in any legitimate revenue stream. Literally like bulls in a China shop, with municipal moneies to them being like pearls before swine. They don't care how much money they waste in their insane, obvious obsession with ripping Ms Zimmer from office so they can get their clannish Old Guard money making (for them) hand washing operations up and running again. No wonder the state won't take Hoboken very seriously when four out of nine votes are frittered away on pure political wasteful nonsense.
All the misleading and hateful blogging in the world by Outofcontrol can't cover up those basic facts. And his constant referrals to "your mayor" does indeed bring into question his residency.

The mayor's relationship w/ the governor got us $5mm to save the hospital you fool. Without that money, Mason & company would have gotten their wish and that hospital would be boarded up right now. Course you don't care, you just want to hate.

But if you are outofcontrol in Hoboken and you are doing town comparisons, shouldn't you be saying - "... by OUR mayor..."
That is, don't you say that you aren't in Secaucus but Hoboken?
When you get done hating, can you just let us know the temperature on Centre St?
Our regards to your Mr. Raia.

Creepy that you know the address where I live. So, I will repost an earlier message on another thread:
Dearest Bob R, since you addressed your comments to TB and referred to OOC as living out of town - I will repeat the fact that I DO NOT POST on Patch under any other name but this one. So, if you or anyone else believes that OOC is Theresa Burns, the former BOE member who currently resides in Secaucus, you are mistaken. I am Theresa Burns. I post under the name "tburns" only.
I normally address education-related issues, but occassionally offer my opinion on other topics. However, my ONLY username is tburns.
In fact, these blogs that should provide an opportunity for civil discourse on topics of mutual local interest have devolved into public billboards for slander and mischaracterization. That is true for both sides. The whole body politic of Hoboken has become irreparably fractured and damaged and concerned less with progress for the good of the city than promoting a particular agenda. These blogs are largely to blame.
That being said, they DO offer the opportunity to exercise our first amendment rights. And so I will continue to offer my opinions. As always, Theresa Burns.

I would like for this City's Council and our Major to wake the hell up and realize what the City of Hoboken needs. Behind all this back and forth nonsense just do what's right. Take for instance these recent fires, due to the lack of fire personell other city's came to the aid, stop all the political nonsense and hire already. The city turned down last years aid for what? I'm not into politics but I sure can see some behind door shot going on. We the people elected these people in office and it's we the people that should stand together to elect them out. Out with old and in with the new.

Actually Hoboken Fire Department had sent our guys and equipment to fight a 5 alarm fire in Jersey City just before the Washington Street fire broke out.
The mutual help between local municipalities is and has been standard practice for decades.

Watch the union keep pushing this story that they are undermanned and keep ignoring 1/3 of the people on duty that day were helping out in JC when they had their 5 alarm fire & needed some backup from surrounding towns.

No one is underminding the practice but evaluating the man power pay attention and realize there is a shortage within the whole county and each department is try to supplement that issue by counting on mutual aid to put out there fires. Goof luck with that strategy it took mutual aid an hour to get into town for the Washington fire. Pray to God it not your family or your apartment that's not trapped in the future or you may not be so lucky to make it out alive. Food 4 Thought.

We were fully staffed. Any shortage of staffing in the county outside of Hoboken is not Hoboken's responsibility to deal with.

Every Council Person, the Mayor, etc. has at least one email address dedicated to City business. Mine is MelloForHoboken@gmail.com. If anyone needs to "wake (me or us) the hell up", may I please ask that you start by communicating your views on any particular issue via email. All of the Council members are pretty responsive to emails, to varying degrees. It's more productive and efficient to hear about concerns via email, and this mode of concern-raising is always welcome.
