Superintendent Addresses School Safety [POLL]

Dr. Mark Toback briefly broached the topic on Tuesday night during the monthly school board meeting.

In the wake of the devastating shooting in Newtown, Conn., school safety has been on the minds of many parents.

The topic has come up at a recent council meeting, when Councilman Michael Russo proposed adding security to the schools. Council members Jennifer Giattino and Peter Cunningham met with Superintendent Dr. Mark Toback and School Board President Leon Gold recently to discuss the safety plan for the schools.

City Attorney Melissa Longo told Russo at a recent council meeting she'd look into the option of having police officers work security at the schools.

On Tuesday night, Toback addressed the issue, by saying that the board of education has invested in a new camera system for the schools as well as software that identifies the faces of frequent visitors to the schools.

Toback said the schools have "very dilligent security guards" who make sure that unwanted visitors don't get into Hoboken's school buildings.

But we want to hear from you, Hoboken parents. What do you think of the level of school safety in Hoboken?

Can patch stop quoting mike "I didn't take a bribe only said I would on an undercover camera" Russo? This guy is at a minimum an extremely unethical person (if not criminal) and there is no place for such individuals in government. I know of no one who cares about his opinion on any matter what so ever. We all are just waiting for his term to expire on the city council as November elections will insure the people's voices are heard. And he is not re-elected.

You are entitled to your opinion and fantasies, but the fact is that Councilman Russo was duly elected by the people in his district and brought up the issue first at the city council. As a matter of basic protocol and respect, he should have been invited to the meeting with the superintendent. Unfortunately, Councilpersons Cunningham and Giattino, along with Superintendent Toback, showed again that playing politics is high on their priority list, and colors any attempts to address problems or enact policies. This is not leadership.

And of course Leon Gold. No surprise there. He just oozes contempt.

recallbethmason is always trying to get his talking points into a post even if it is only tangentially related to the story. That's a good blogger. And, like many of the best pundits on Fox News do, notice how he uses the strategy of Target, Isolate, Ridicule, and Remove in posting about Councilman Russo. Its all very formulaic once you see it for what it is I think.

Or just target, isolate & remove by means of a law suit. Whatever works.

But hey, don't you have a lot of reading to do?
