The Best Mutz In Jersey Can Be Found in Hoboken
New Jersey Monthly has picked its favorite mutz in the state.
Hobokenites already knew it, but now the rest of the state is also on board.
The best mozzarella—sorry, mutz—can be found in Hoboken.
"Finally we tried M&P Biancamano, a deli rarely mentioned even among mutz aficionados. There we found the absolute best mutz the Mile Square City has to offer—soft, supple, juicy, salty sweet and kept as it should be, in a bath of its own room-temperature whey water," Ozersky wrote about his quest for the best mutz around the state. "Each mouthful was more addictive than the last—a pound went down as easy as a Jello shot. When pulled, it had no grain and barely any resistance; the most patient hands had formed it."

We always'd go to M&P their sandwiches are great! the mutz is very soft and delicious. they make the sandwich very thick and with all the trimmings the way you like it, I like the soft bread , they make it as you prefer. and the price is perfect. the owners are very polite and make your stay pleasant. Enjoy!

Julie, just for that, what the heck, I'm going back in there for the first time in many years and giving them another shot. I haven't had Biancamano's since God was a child. I've been sticking with Vito's and Fiore's for a while (prefer Vito's of the two, but it's kind of an apples and oranges thing). But then I have to ask- when is the last time you tried Vito's?

Fiore's or Biancomano;
followed by Lisa's and Vito's in that order.
All of them with the possible exception of Biancomano trace their roots to Apulia-the province in Italy where the best mozzarella comes from. Neopolitans may disagree. Don't know the roots of Biancomano's.

I have always found Vito's to be a tad overrated. Lisa's never did it for me. Luca Brazi, meh. Fran's is decent. For my buck, it's always come down to Fiore's and Biancamano's, which continually leapfrog one another for first place.
nice try

Congrats, Peter B. I've never tried your family's but now I will.
As for Fiore's, I had one of the best sandwiches of my life there... oh my Lord... their heavenly mutz w/garlic-infused olive oil, roasted red peppers, balsamic vinegar, sundried tomatoes.... WOW.

Thanks, RenyRo for the tip. Aside from roast beef & mutz, what else goes in the sandwich?

Will Vito's still make the Rocky Mutziano? Adding a slice of cured meat (was it Cappicola?) to the roast beef and mutz added a little salt to round out the sandwich nicely. Better than Fiores, and probably one of my all time faves. (Alternatively, I've used sun dried tomatoes or red peppers, almost as good, but not enough fat content)

I love being so spoiled with all these options. No wonder Hoboken has become the premier destination in NJ.
And M&P's is the TRUTH

you all do realize that most "homemade" mutz is just bulk purchased cheese curd that is then "made on premises" into mozzerella. Of course Polly-O is the biggest supplier. That said..."how" one makes the mutz from the same curd results in different tasting products.

I was wondering about that. Weeks ago, I saw Lisa's deli opening a massive bag of what looked like cheese with mozzerella written on it into the sink. You have assisted in my understanding and now I feel better that it's not a (total) sham. (And yes, I am stone serious)

Tony's makes the best sandwich in Hudson County. The hot food and soups are better than homemade and their mozz melts in your mouth. Try it for yourself and you'll be a believer
