Uptown Road To Reopen to Traffic
After months of reconstruction the "sinkhole" is history.
The uptown part of Sinatra Drive that collapsed last October is set to re-open for traffic at noon on Friday.
Hudson County announced the completion of the project through a press release on its website. Repairs of the sinkhole cost roughly $2.8 million and was entirely paid for by Hudson County.
The project was paid for by funding from New Jersey's Department of Transportation. The major part of the reconstruction consisted of installing new steel piles.
"This project was completed in the face of some of the toughest conditions imaginable,” said County Executive Tom DeGise in the press release. "Most of the engineering and construction took place under the surface of the Hudson River, through one of the worst winters on record."
The road collapsed on Oct. 8, 2010 when a bulkhead holding up the road gave way. The attack of organisms on the century-old marine timber underwater structure added to its eventual collapse, according to the county.
Heavy storms in one of Hoboken's roughest winters in recent history enlarged the sinkhole and delayed construction.

If she had walked a whole block out of her way, she wouldn't have ranted about this to begin with.

Thank goodness this has been repaired. We should thank Diane for putting the spotlight on it!

RIP Hoboken Sinkhole! May the residents of NE Hoboken spit on your grave! :) (just kidding folks). I am happy for all of Hoboken. Now, on to the next infrastructure emergency (Sinatra Park Field)!
