Volunteers to Paint Hoboken's Street Corners
The annual volunteering day hosted by Hoboken Grace Community Church returns on Saturday.
Hoboken's street corners will soon look as good as new, and you could have everything to do with it.
This year, Hoboken Grace Community Church and the members of the community will partner to serve the Hoboken Housing Authority, the Jubilee Center, the In Jesus’ Name food pantry, the City of Hoboken (by painting street corners), the public library and the Hoboken Shelter.
“Every year, volunteers from Hoboken Grace exemplify the community spirit that makes Hoboken special,” says Mayor Dawn Zimmer. “Painting our corners is an important part of making our streets safer, and I thank all the volunteers for their tremendous generosity and for making Hoboken a better place to live.”
On Saturday June 9, starting at 10 a.m., Hoboken Grace Community Church is organizing its third annual 1Day in Hoboken, a day of volunteering around town. Everyone is invited to participate, according to the church's announcement.
Volunteers will meet at Church Square Park, and spread out throughout Hoboken to spend two hours working on projects for various organizations serving our city.
Volunteers will work in small groups, cleaning public spaces, organizing the food pantry, clearing driftwood, planting flowers, repainting faded curb markings, and more. Hundreds of volunteers are needed and can sign up at www.1DayHoboken.com or visit Church Square Park that Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
“It's really been a phenomenal event for the last two years, as hundreds of people have come together to serve organizations all over our city,” said Chris High, Pastor of Hoboken Grace. “At the heart of Hoboken Grace's mission is God's call to serve others. That's what this day is all about."
For the volunteers, a day of giving back to the community is often fullfilling.
“It’s amazing to see what a group of us can accomplish,” said Nick Lenzi, who volunteered during 1Day last year. "There was a proud moment, to look around and see a better looking Hoboken all from a day’s work."
