YMCA Fundraiser Serving Up The Best of Hoboken
"A Taste of Hoboken" will be held on Tuesday, January 22 at the Schaefer Center at Stevens Institute of Technology from 6 to 9:30 p.m.
Tamales from Zafra. Fresh mutz from Vito's. Cannolis from Carlo's.
Those are just some of the bites on the menu at "A Taste of Hoboken," the North Hudson YMCA's annual fundraiser that celebrates all things delectable in the Mile Square City.
More than 30 restaurants and bakeries, and over 20 purveyors of beer, wine and spirits will be serving samples of their signature dishes and drinks on Tuesday night. Live music will be provided by local jazz outfit Swingadelic.
All the proceeds from the event will benefit the YMCA, which has nearly completed a $15 million affordable housing project.
Event chairman Ken Nilsen said YMCA is starting to turn its attention to the rest of the building. The gym has been closed and health and family services suspended since March 2010.
Nilsen said the board is assessing local needs for community space. "How do we recreate ourselves to be the best possible asset to the Hoboken and North Hudson communities?"
In the meantime, Nilsen hopes the event will support local businesses that have been hurting after Sandy.
