Tuesday in Hoboken: Superstorm Sandy Anniversary, School Board Debate

*Stevens Institute will commemorate the anniversary of Superstorm Sandy Tuesday with a free community program that recollects life in Hoboken during the storm and emphasizes the lessons learned in its aftermath. A session called "After Hurricane Sandy: Lessons Learned for Bolstering Resilience," will be held at 1 p.m., followed at 7 p.m. by a presentation from select storm survivors and volunteers who will share their own personal experiences during Sandy.

*The last of four Quality of Life Coalition forums scheduled in advance of the Nov. 5 election — a debate between Hoboken Board of Education candidates — will be held this Tuesday at Our Lady of Grace School auditorium, on Willow Avenue at 5th Street. The debate begins at 7 p.m.

*Our Lady of Grace will mark the first anniversary of Superstorm Sandy by celebrating a special mass in the Church on the corner of Willow Ave and 4th Street at 7 p.m.  Attendees are asked to bring a flashlight for illumination during the "Blackout Homily". 

*Prospective animal adopters can pay any price they choose for their new pet from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Liberty Humane Society as part of the shelter's second annual "Name Your Price" adoption promotion.

*Councilman and mayoral candidate Tim Occhipinti's "One Hoboken," slate which includes Frank Raia, Peter Biancamano and Britney Montgomery-Cook is holding a fundraiser at Texas Arizona Tuesday night from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $500 for host committees; $150 general admission; and $50 for young professionals.
