Comment Moderation Changes

As some of you have noticed, there is no longer pre-screening of comments before they post live to the site.

The site's new build, which was rolled out over night Wednesday, does not currently allow me to pre-screen comments/announcements/blogs, etc. before they're posted. This is not something I have any control over, nor are any of the other features that have recently changed. I had no say in any of the changes and cannot bring back the old layout. I can only relay your suggestions for improvement on to the powers that be at Patch.

Patch made these changes to simplify the posting experience easier for users, but it obviously has the unfortunate consequence of more potentially offensive comments appearing on the site.

If you believe a comment is inappropriate and violates the terms of service, please flag it. That will set in motion an automated process whereby the comment may be removed and its poster may be suspended from the site (if numerous comments are flagged).

Additionally, a Patch community editor who has no relationship to Hoboken will be monitoring comments and may also flag ones that violate the terms of service, as well as determine whether comments that have been flagged by users were done so appropriately.

Flagging comments that do not violate the terms of service — out of spite or dislike for the poster, for example — can also have negative consequences with the new "user trust" model , so please keep that in mind.

With all that said, comment away!

Carol, another Zombie of Zimmy. You're one of the can't understand normal thinking types that lives in front of a keyboard, must be lonely. Sad life, hang yourself

Hi Zak. I wish the new commenting system allowed us to hit the return key and make a new paragraph. When you do it now, the final post still comes out as one long paragraph, which isn't particularly user friendly from a readability standpoint. And RE: flagging, be prepared for lots of political operatives doing slurs and name-calling, as Dov and others have already demonstrated. I wish they would just discuss the facts but for some reason they resort to bully behavior and feel the need to insult and threaten those who disagree with them. It's election year, so get used to it, unfortunately. Thanks, you've done a great job already.

One other suggestion: would be great to have the ability to reply to a specific comment, directly under that comment. We are unable to do that now, all new comments automatically get posted at the end. This disrupts the flow and makes conversation more difficult to follow. Thanks.

Zak, please do something about Dov. He does not add anything but insults, lies, and suggestions that people should commit suiside.
