Comment Moderation Changes

As some of you have noticed, there is no longer pre-screening of comments before they post live to the site.

The site's new build, which was rolled out over night Wednesday, does not currently allow me to pre-screen comments/announcements/blogs, etc. before they're posted. This is not something I have any control over, nor are any of the other features that have recently changed. I had no say in any of the changes and cannot bring back the old layout. I can only relay your suggestions for improvement on to the powers that be at Patch.

Patch made these changes to simplify the posting experience easier for users, but it obviously has the unfortunate consequence of more potentially offensive comments appearing on the site.

If you believe a comment is inappropriate and violates the terms of service, please flag it. That will set in motion an automated process whereby the comment may be removed and its poster may be suspended from the site (if numerous comments are flagged).

Additionally, a Patch community editor who has no relationship to Hoboken will be monitoring comments and may also flag ones that violate the terms of service, as well as determine whether comments that have been flagged by users were done so appropriately.

Flagging comments that do not violate the terms of service — out of spite or dislike for the poster, for example — can also have negative consequences with the new "user trust" model , so please keep that in mind.

With all that said, comment away!
