Hoboken Housing Karate Wins 9 Medals
At the Battle of Bushido 4 held on Oct. 27 at the Hotel Pennsylvania in Manhattan, members of the Hoboken Housing Authority Karate for Kids program showcased their skills and emerged successful. “These students work hard all year,” said Hoboken Housing Authority Executive Director Carmelo Garcia. “Their determination shows with these outstanding results.”
Of the 12 competitors, nine finished with medals. Faith Figueroa, 13, a green belt, was crowned first place underbelt grand champion. Shakea Coleman, 13, a black belt, finished second against the international champion. The following students also earned medals: Noelia Fernandez, 25, green belt, second place; Brian Diaz, 14, green belt, second place; Nicolas Neiro, 9, green belt, second place; Anthony Dominguez, 13, green belt, third place; Melanie Molina, 8, green belt, third place; Luis Melendez, 14, orange belt, first place; and Alanys Gonzales, 8, blue belt, second place. “We are proud of them as they have represented the HHA with class”! said Garcia.
