Hoboken resident appears on Kanye West's new album, "Yeezus"
Hoboken, NJ – Hoboken resident Matt Teitelman has his first major album credit playing percussion on Kanye West's album, Yeezus. The album hit #1 on the U.S. and U.K. charts during its first week of sales. As of it's third week, the album has sold over 400,000 copies. This marks the seventh Billboard top-ten release for Mr. West and the first for Mr. Teitelman.
The first track, “On Sight,” which was produced by West in collaboration with Daft Punk, contains interpolations of “Sermon (He'll Give Us What We Really Need)” by Keith Carter, Sr., on which Teitelman and fellow drummer (and Hobokenite) Dylan Wissing both appear. The drummers teamed up after Teitelman's practice space and Wissing's Triple Colossal Studios were both destroyed by Hurricane Irene. Together they rebuilt the studio in a new, safer location. Since then, Teitelman has assisted on several projects with GRAMMY award-winning producer, Ken Lewis, including the breakout hit “Girl on Fire” by Alicia Keys.
