Children Peddle to Raise Money for Pediatric Cancer Patients

The Brandt School hosted the annual Trike-a-Thon last week.

Dozens of children in Hopes Cap Inc. Head Start / Early Childhood Program participated last week at The Brandt School in the annual Trike-a-Thon to raise money for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

The school has raised more than $27,000 for the research hospital since its inception in 2001.

As part of events commemorating the “Week of the Young Child,” the children mounted tricycles and peddled in laps to raise funds to help other kids.

The children also displayed science projects, wore crazy hair or hats, painted faces and had a pajama party.

All proceeds from the event benefited St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, one of the world’s premier centers for the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases.

"We think it’s important to teach children that there are others out there in greater need than themselves and that they are capable of helping, even at such a young age,” said Joselyn Estevez-Vargas, director, Children & Family Services for Hopes Cap Inc.
