Hoboken a Top Place for Recent College Grads to Live, Report Says

Hoboken's vibrant downtown, access to more than 100,000 job openings and the large amount of rentals available rank the city among the best places for new college grads to live in the country, according to Livability.com.

Hoboken ranked No. 6 in Livability.com's recently released list of the "Top 10 Best Cities for New College Grads 2014." The top city for recent college grads is Cambridge, Mass., according to the report.

The mile-square city is perfect for the recent college grads who "crave the hustle and bustle of being near New York City but want to live in a smaller community," the report said.

With access to nearly 122,000 job openings, the unemployment rate for Hoboken residents between the ages of 25 and 34 is just 1.6 percent, according to the report.

"To determine the best cities for recent college graduates, we analyzed factors such as the number of 25- to 34-year-olds living in each city, the availability of rental properties, unemployment rates, educational attainment levels, use of public transportation and the types of jobs these places offer," Livability.com's report said.

"We also sought out cities that cater to a younger demographic by offering lots of recreational activities, hot nightlife and a hip vibe. What we found were places where new college graduates are likely to find jobs they'd actually want, homes they can afford and a social scene that allows them to more easily make new friends, fit in and engage with the community."
