Vintage Club Celebrates 168th Anniversary of Hoboken's First Baseball Game

The Hoboken Vintage Base Ball Club will make the occasion with a game Saturday at the high school's JFK Stadium.

The Hoboken Vintage Base Ball Club will play the Flemington Neshanocks on Saturday at JFK Stadium at Hoboken High School to celebrate the 168th anniversary of the first game played on Elysian Fields in Hoboken on June 19, 1846.

The game starts at 1 p.m. and there will be a gathering for drinks afterward at the Shannon bar at 106 First St. starting at 4 p.m.

The Hoboken Vintage Base Ball Club play the game as it was in the 19th century.  The club plays by 1864 rules, use 19th century bats and balls (no gloves), and wear authentic 19th century uniforms.

The club plays competitively in the Mid Atlantic Vintage Base Ball league, where it  travels to other states to play vintage clubs. For more information  visit the club's website at HobokenNine.Jimdo.com or facebook.com/HobokenNineFundraiser or call Manager Frank Stingone at 201-892-6649
