Were you the class clown in school? Are you the funny one in the office? Now you can show off your joke making skills at the next Hoboken Comedy Festival's first ever local talent competition.
The festival, which will happen for the this October, has added two nights to give aspiring comedians a chance to perform in front of a live audience. The winners of the contest will then get to perform over the weekend alongside the festival's headliners, who in the past have included Todd Barry, Hannibal Burress, Amy Schumer and Hoboken resident Chuck Nice.
“Aspiring comedians can try their hand at comedy whether they be first timers or unestablished veterans,” the festival's founder Dan Frigolette said.
The competition is open to comedians in and around Hoboken. Contestants can enter by filling out a form on the festival's website. They will also have to submit a $30 registration fee. The deadline to submit is October 1.
The open talent nights will take place on October 10 and 11, at the Tilted Kilt an the Melting Pot. The festival's feature nights will then follow on Friday, October 12 at The West Five Supper Club; Saturday, October 13 at Maxwell's; and Sunday, October 14 at the Pilsener Haus Biergarten.
Frigolette said he is still putting on the finishing touches to this year's festival, including securing the headliners.
“I'm not ready to announce the headliners yet but you can expect some monster names that won't soon be forgotten,” he said.
