God of Carnage
If you’ve ever wondered how a squabble between two sets of parents could provide enough fire for a Tony-award winning comedy, head over to Mile Square Theatre for its production of God of Carnage. The local professional theatre company stages the much lauded comedy starting October 6, every Thursday through Sunday until October 23rd. Evening performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 PM; matinees on Saturday and Sunday begin at 3 PM. Tickets are available online (www.milessquaretheatre.org <http://www.milessquaretheatre.org> ) or before each performance at the theatre’s new home at the Monroe Theatrespace, 720 Monroe in Hoboken. Tickets are $25. Students and seniors, $15.
God of Carnage, written by Yazmina Reza, is about a pair of parents who meet to discuss a fight between their 11-year-old sons. Intending to deal civilly with the matter and arrive at a teachable moment for their children, the afternoon deteriorates, as does their behavior. Pettiness, power struggles and questions of political correctness send the meeting into chaos. “The playwright keeps it bitingly comical with wonderful language and some very farcical stage business,” said Chris O’Connor, artistic director of Mile Square Theatre, who directs the production. “It is a play we’re going to have lots of fun with.“
