MSTnewWorks will continue Mile Square Theatre’s tradition of bringing top-notch professional theatre to Hoboken. MSTnewWorks features readings of cutting edge plays by America’s most talented and provocative playwrights.

How would a society addicted to money respond if one of its wealthiest members began to give his money away? Sam Tyler is the wealthy CEO of a very profitable casino. When his estranged father passes away, something snaps inside of Sam. He begins to seek the neediest customers in the casino to give them enormous amounts of cash to help them in their lives. As Sam gives away his money he begins to grow as a human being, finding a deeper connection with his wife and with the world around him. Life for Sam Tyler has never been better…until his secret is discovered.

 The Wealthy Life of Sam Tyler contains adult language and strong themes.

 Artist Bios: 

Dano Madden (playwright and director). Dano Madden is an award-winning playwright who grew up in Boise, Idaho. His plays have been produced by Burnt Studio Productions, Actors Theatre of Louisville, The Source Festival, Northwest Playwrights Alliance, Mile Square Theatre, The Artful Conspirators, Rutgers University and many others. His work has been published by Samuel French Inc., Playscripts, Inc., Best American Short Plays 2005-2006, The Best Men’s Stage Monologues and Scenes of 2010 (Smith and Kraus) and the 2007 and 2010 editions of NorthNorthWest. Directing credits: Whitman’s Brooklyn (The Artful Conspirators), Sister Mary Ignatius …(Actors Theatre of Louisville) and Backstory (24th Humana Festival), among others. He teaches at the Playwrights Horizons Theatre School (NYU) and at Stockton College.

 Chris Chinn (Sam). Chris was recently acknowledged with the Latino ACE Award for Acting for his performance in Confesion En El Barrio Chino at the Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre Co....performing completely en Espanol!   Other notable Theatre credits: M.Butterfly (Song) Monterey Mainstage, the World Premiere of Tennessee Williams’ The Day On Which A Man Dies (Kunyoshi) The White Barn Theatre, Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theatre, South Coast Rep, Mark Taper Forum, NJ Rep, West Coast Ensemble, HB Playwrights, Boomerang.  TV & Film: The Unusuals, Kidnapped, One Life To Live, Saved By The Bell, Angels in America, The Departed.

 Matthew Lawler (Whitey/ MST Artistic Associate) Matthew Lawler is a Co-Founder and current Producing Artistic Director for the award-winning Rude Mechanicals Theater Company of NYC. The company's productions include New York premiers of works by Samuel Beckett, Don DeLillo, and Caryl Churchill, as well as world premiers by Will Eno and Charles Mee Jr. As an actor for the company, Matt has performed in several shows including Endgame, Largo DeSoloto (winner of Backstage's Harold Clurman Award), The Flu Season (winner of Newsday's Oppy Award), and DeLillo's Valparaiso (New York Times Best of Off-Broadway for 2002). Matt has worked with several other theaters in New York including The Roundabout, Ensemble Studio Theatre, The New Group, and 59E59 in Rough Sketch, a play by Shawn Nacol which he helped develop. TV and film credits include Filmic Achievement (Jackson Hole Festival Award for Best Comedic Performance), The Sopranos, and several appearances on Law & Order. He is an ACT grad, Hoboken resident, and proud father of Lily and Matilda.

 Annie Rutherford Lutz (Various roles). Annie is a recent graduate of Rutgers University. Past roles include Little Sally in Urinetown, the Beggar Woman in Sweeney Todd, Woman 1 in Songs for a New World, and Maureen in Rent. Currently, Annie is a member of the George Street Playhouse Educational Touring Company, and she is understudying George Street's mainstage The Fox on the Fairway (Dir. David Saint).

 Lenard Petit (Drunk Man). Lenard is a director /actor who resides in New York City.  He has been working in the theater for thirty years collaborating with other artists to create original works for the stage, cinema, and television.  He has performed in works of such notable directors as Julie Taymor, Meredith Monk, Richard Foreman, Ping Chong, and many others. Lenard is  the Artistic Director of The Michael Chekhov Acting Studio. As one of a handful of teacher students trained by the original members of Michael Chekhov's Theater School his knowledge of the technique coupled with his gifts have brought him to be recognized as one of the foremost teachers of this technique in the world. As a member of the international Michael Chekhov Association, he has been invited to teach Master classes at the Moscow Art Theater, The International School for Film and Television in Munich, Helsinki University, as well as acting workshops in Denmark, Amsterdam, Berlin, Zurich, London , Riga, and Irkutsk  Siberia. For the past 17 years he has been teaching Chekhov Technique in the MFA and BFA Acting  programs at Rutgers University. His work as a director was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience in 2006. Mr Petit is the author of the book, The Michael Chekhov Handbook For The Actor.

 Lauren Singerman (Danielle) Regional credits include Little Eagles (Royal Shakespeare Company), You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown (Two River Theater Company), The Drunken City (world premiere, Kitchen Theatre Company), and The Most Happy Fella (Cider Mill Playhouse). New York credits include Sheila Callaghan’s Ayravana Flies (world premiere, Vital Theatre Company), Pieces of the Throne (Epic Theatre Ensemble), Survival (Samuel French OOB Festival), and a bunch of readings for Lark Play Development Center and id Theater. She appeared as imaginary friend Tori Atherton on ABC’s All My Children. MFA, Rutgers University. Member, AEA and AFTRA.
